Any LPNs here work in home health? How do you like it? How many patients do you normally visit a day? What goes on in a shift/visit? Do you get to use many skills? Is it just a side job or can you sustain on it alone?

I did home health as a 2nd job. I worked with only one patient and was typically with that patient for a 8-10 hour shift. I did all ADLs, therapy exercises, cleaning, feeding, etc. I may even get back into it. I enjoyed it a lot. You can really make a difference in your patients life.

I do home health. 15 visits a day at $20 a visit, pays more than enough. I admin meds and do a quick safety check and mental health assessment. It's a psych company. I love it, I don't use a lot of learned skills, but I can't complain one bit about my job.

I am working HH, my first job out of school. I really love the quality care I get to give my patient. I do use my skills- assessing, gtube, vitals, complete care. I work two five hr. and one 12hr. shift. It's good for me as a part time gig till my boy gets older. The money is decent, and I love the family too.
Anyone else in home health

I am no longer an LPN (RN now). However I worked as a LPN in Home Health for 5 years. On average I saw 8 clients a day, and was paid per visit. I was paid hourly when I went into the office for case conferences, inservices and when I had to do documentation and contact the physicians office. I worked full-time and made good money. I did not need another source of income.
The down fall to home health for me was all the call that I had to take, every other week and weekend. Yes I did get paid for just being on call and then got my per visit rate when I got called out. When I was in the field I used a lot of skills: assessment, wound care, injections, venipuncture, charting, education, PICC lines, central lines.
If you like a lot of autonomy this would be a good job for you. If you like having someone down the hall to come help in a pinch then this may not be so good. You have to be comfortable with your skills and trust your judgement.
I wish you the best.

Whoops, left this one out. My visits usually lasted 30-45 minutes each depending on what was going on. Every patient got an assessment, then it varied from patient to patient. Some where geared towards setting up a med planner and medication education, other's were geared towards diabetic care, or wound care or IV antibiotics.
I also forgot to mention in my previous post, I got paid milage from patient to patient house and then back to the office at the end of the day.

I started working for a home health agency within almost 6 months out of school but I also work for Vitas Hospice (right out of school) I have my 2 regular patients that I see once a week and sometimes they would give me an extra 2 or 3 "short period" patients for either wound care, injections, assessments, etc. I get $20 per visit pay, no mileage (which is hell on my gas) but its extra money so it does go towards my gas and other things I have to pay for.

That sounds about right for HH work here in SE FLA. I was thinking about HH myself but not worth it IMO because of that. Does anyone here NOT like HH because of not paying for millage and having to go from place to place?
I don't think I could go from place to place like 8-10 places a day and so much gas $ . Also millage on my car, don't forget about wear and tear. Higher cost of maintenance and repairs.

I just went to a home health agency. They offered $14 per visit. No millage. They say the visit may only take 30 minutes though. They also told me I had to see that same patient 7 days a week, no weekends off. Are all home health jobs like this? I have never done home health.
