I've recently been accepted to Holy Family's Accelerated Nursing program-- I understand they have just begun their first cohort, so finding information is very difficult and I just want to be informed before I make any sort of decision. Are there any current HFU accelerated nursing students or traditional nursing students who can speak to their experience with the university? I've seen many negative posts but they also seem a bit outdated! Thanks!
@scarlet1314 - apparently the PM system is only for those that have posted a minimum of 15 "quality topics" on the site. Unfortunately I can't send any messages either. Thankfully orientation isn't too far away so we can meet on Thursday of next week :) I'm Ashley S.
Have a great weekend!
Hello All! It's been great & very reassuring to read these comments, considering some of the negative reviews I have seen on other sites (although they were quite outdated as mentioned on here as well).
I was just accepted into the Fall 2016 ABSN program. Hope everyone on here is enjoying the program and succeeding...any helpful insight/tips for incoming students?
Thank you!
Congrats to you kjbentzen! Remember a lot of the negative comments are coming from the undergrad program. A lot of us have been in college before and know what it takes to succeed. Believe me the professors want you to succeed you just have to put the work in. I would say take a med math class for nurses or at least get Calculate with Confidence. Prepare as much as you can before hand and get the pre stuff out of the way with American databank. You will find out what the lovely system is soon. Its finals week for us...1st seven weeks almost done so we are going nuts! Let me know if you have nay questions would be glad to answer but for now I have to get back to studying!
kjbentzen,
I hope you don't mind me asking when you submitted your application? Also did you undergo the interview process at the Newtown campus? I was invited by the school to be interviewed last week prior to an information session. I realized some other students did not receive the same message. Also, they requested the syllabus of a nutrition course I took in my current undergrad studies, so I assumed that was a good sign? They said they could not make an admission decision until I gave them the syllabus.
Hoping for good news soon! Please get back to me whenever most convenient for you.
Hi kjbentzen, congrats!! Id also like to know when you applied. I applied in January for Fall 2016 and still haven't heard anything yet. I know it hasn't been that long but I'm hoping to hear soon. I was already accepted to Gwynned but don't want to give them a deposit until I hear from holy family. Thanks and good luck to you!
Hi RyanCav and BA2012! I submitted my application sometime in mid-January, and received a response about 1.5 weeks ago. I believe they do rolling admissions, and I was eager to apply, so got my application in really early, and was lucky enough to get a great response early too! They did reach out to me regarding a syllabus for a Nutrition class I took as well - so I think that must be a good sign! I was not contacted for an interview, so unfortunately I can't provide too much feedback on that - I'm sorry! Considering their rolling admissions process, I would imagine and am hoping you will both hear soon. Good luck and I hope to see you both in the Fall!!!
I was accepted a couple weeks ago for the 2016 Fall start. I am between Drexel and Holy Family, but leaning toward HFU because of the $20K price difference...However, I have almost no information about what a "typical" day looks like, such as class size, class times, clinical locations, etc. And I am aware that HFU didn't have the best NCLEX pass rate. Any help? Also, when is the start date? Drexel begins September 19th. Thanks in advance!
Hello true54180. I was also accepted a few weeks again into the Fall 2016 start~ congratulations! I went to an info session on 3/9/16 and got some answers to your good questions (which were also some of my main questions).
All the below info is per the info session held at HFU on 3/9/16:
Start date: 8/29/16
Typical day: Lecture is with your entire cohort of about 35 people; labs are done in groups of 6-8; no night classes (mostly 8 or 9 AM start time per the info session), but labs can run until about 8 PM; clinicals rotate every semester and are done with a group of 6-8 fellow students at nearby locations
Clinical Locations: all major hospitals in PHL, some locations across the river in NJ, other local locations in PA, community health clinicals include home care, hospice, school nursing
NCLEX data: I was also concerned about this. The ABSN program is relatively new - Fall 2016 will be the 3rd or 4th cohort. They currently have no NCLEX data on the ABSN program itself. Low NCLEX scores were for the traditional 4 year nursing program at HFU. In an effort to get these scores up, they now utilize ATI for NCLEX prep as opposed to a previous vendor they were not satisfied with. They're hoping this will help, and said that they just had great ATI scores come through from the 1st cohort that utilized this.
Hope this info helps - if you can attend an info session I'd definitely recommend doing so.
Hope to see you in the Fall of 2016!

I'll be at orientation! Although I haven't heard anything from the school since RSVPing.... I think it starts at 8am on Thursday right?
@ans322 I tried to contact you through here in a private message but it wouldn't let me? Not sure why...maybe try to message me first and see if it will work that way
