Holy Family University

Published

I've recently been accepted to Holy Family's Accelerated Nursing program-- I understand they have just begun their first cohort, so finding information is very difficult and I just want to be informed before I make any sort of decision. Are there any current HFU accelerated nursing students or traditional nursing students who can speak to their experience with the university? I've seen many negative posts but they also seem a bit outdated! Thanks!

Fingers crossed for you too! It's so hard to wait. I can't say I'm doing it patiently!

Why a school so far away?

I applied to a few others, one I was accepted to, but its not my first choice because its so very very expensive. Another I should also hear back by the end of the month. Waiting is not easy!

When I originally did my research, I was only looking in Philadelphia and HFU never showed up in my search. I ruled out Philly because the schools that do offer the Second Degree Nursing Program were so expensive. I am originally from MN, although I haven't lived there since I was a kid. However, most of my family still lives there, so I have a good economical set-up if I end up there. Originally, my first choice was Xavier in Ohio, because they offer a Second Degree Nursing Program that gives you a Masters in Nursing at the end of 18 months. But after a lot more research and finding out about HFU, they are now my first choice. But, hey, at least we both have options, since we have been accepted somewhere else already.

Hi Mike and Sarah! I applied for the Fall 2018 cohort and I got my acceptance letter yesterday! So you may hear within the next week. Did either of you apply anywhere else? What are your stats? I just started a FB group today called - Holy Family University Fast Track Nursing Class of 2019 (start Fall 2018)!

When did you submit your application into by????

I will join the group--only after I am accepted, I cant risk jinxing it! haha

I did apply to Drexel and was accepted but HFU is my #1 right now.

EDIT: ALSO CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Good for you! Congrats on your acceptance! I so hope we all hear soon so we can plan accordingly. I did apply at another school and was accepted there to start April 2, so I'm anxious to hear from HFU so I know if I need to move and start the other program or not. My stats were good. I transferred in a 4.0 GPO and had 2 A+ and 2 B+ on my prerequisites. I still have to take nutrition. How were your stats? Did you receive your letter in the mail? Don at HFU said they would notify us either way if we got in or didn't.

What bachelors degrees do you all currently hold?

Hey Mike and Sara!

I believe I submitted my application back in October, I do think he said I was one of the first to be fair! I am still waiting to hear from two other schools! I got emailed with the letter and said I would be getting the letter soon in the mail also. My first Bachelor's degrees were in both Journalism and Public Relations, so I don't have a health care or science background. What are your degrees in? My GPA from my first degrees were 3.7 and my sciences I had all As and one B but I am still taking one class. Hoping for you both to hear soon! Do you know how many they take for this program? I feel like I have a hard time finding info!

Wow October 1 is a long time to wait! I have a Health and Exercise Science Degree. I think that they only take between 30-35 students for each cohort. Is HFU your first choice?

It makes sense that you heard already, since you were probably one of the first to apply! I have a marketing degree and have worked in the profession for 15+ years where at least half of it was in healthcare. I currently manage the US healthcare segment for a global hygiene company marketing and selling incontinence products into all post-acute care channels. I love what I do, but want to close my clinical gap with a nursing degree, so I can care and advocate for our growing senior populations.

Don said they only accept 35 students and they receive over 200 applicants. That has been my experience with all of the other schools I've spoken to about the second degree nursing program.

I'm getting more nervous now, knowing that acceptance letters are slowly coming out! ahhhh I really hope I get in here!!!! I also spoke to Don about that. I just couldn't remember if he had told me 30 or 35. Don was so helpful for me in the process. I've emailed multiple schools and none have been nearly as helpful or as easy to reach as Don.
