Hiring Mgr: We will let you know in 2 weeks

I semi-blew an interview, meaning I didn't completely make an ass out of myself, but I could have done better.

The hiring manager told me that I will hear from them no later than 2 weeks from the interview date *even if I did not get the job.

She further explained that she has a lot of interviews to do, which is why it will take that long.

I am assuming I did not get the job.

What are your experiences with "We'll call you in 2 weeks"?

Specializes in Geriatrics w/rehab, LTC, hospice patient.
This is not true across the board. Most of my job offers have come the week following my interview after references have been checked. And I've been a nurse for 11 years and have had 5 nursing jobs.

I believe it is true that my experiences do not apply to all situations. I was just commenting what I have noticed for myself, so far. I apologize if I implied that nobody ever gets nursing jobs if they wait longer than a few days and I certainly didn't mean to state that OP has no chance at all of landing the job. Best of luck to OP.

She didn't say it was true across the board. But it is most likely to be the case that the applicant did not get hired, as mentioned by many others here, because it usually doesn't take a full month to hear back if you got the job. obviously there are exceptions to the rule.

I would continue to look for other positions if you want. Keep your options open. There is nothing wrong about continuing your search while they are continuing theirs.

That happened to me before. The job posting had to up for a certain amount of time and a certain number of interviews had to happen. After 2 weeks, they told me they were moving forward. It took a total of 8 weeks to get the final offer. This was an internal transfer too. I ended up just waiting, because I only wanted to transfer to this department or not at all. I got the offer 8 weeks later and transferred over. This was a huge hospital system; sometimes it just takes that long.

It depends on the type of institution. The 'State' jobs take FOREVER and they never let you know if you are their choice prior to doing all the reference checks. You could get a call months later offering you the position. In my experience, hospitals are a bit quicker because they are usually forcing other RNs to do mandatory OT. And LTCs are super quick because they are usually always working short...

I have never had a phone call saying I'm not hired. And if I try and follow up, they don't answer. I wouldn't wait. Keep applying and interviewing. I'm going through the exact same thing right now.

Specializes in Case manager, float pool, and more.

I had an interview where I just knew there was no way I would get the job. My mouth and brain were not cooperating with each other and I gave a stupid answer right at the first question. Anyways, I pretty much just shut up after that and listened to the job description. Then she followed that with I have 2 more interviews. Does not ask me any more questions about myself either.

Next day I had a tentative offer pending reference checks in my e-mail. I about wet my pants.
