have you been hired on the spot?

I'm a new LPN started at a local hospital part-time for about one month. Today I went to an interview at a local nursing home. Surprisingly they called me three months after I sent in my resume and more surprisingly, they hired me on the spot for a casual position.

I heard a lot good things about this nursing home, but I'm still feeling stunned that they told me after the casual interview that I'm hired. I just need to bring in a physical sheet, and pass a drug screen and tb test. I'm not sure what to think :)

I wasn't hired "on the spot", but I was called back 2 hours after my interview and offered a job (which I start on Monday). :yeah:

This was a month ago. Of course it was contingent on my passing the NCLEX (which I did 2 days ago), passing the background check, physical and drug screen, (again which I did).

This was at a large hospital that is part of a national healthcare organization.

Yes. I graduated in December and have been hired on the spot for 3 different positions thus far (pending reference checks). I have declined two and started the position I accepted this previous week as a PRN and this company has been wonderful so far!

In my previous career, I was hired even before I interviewed, simply by word of mouth about my work ethic. I would get calls at my desk and offers of lots of money over the phone, then I would go and meet these people and I would end up in bidding wars between the employers. Ahhhh, I miss the good ole days when the economy was good.

Always follow your gut. If it's too good to be true, well you know the rest. They are probably short staffed and need a warm body, you, are that warm body. I would suggest visiting a facility before applying. Check out the floor, and see if the nurse are polite, see if the nurses are running carzy on the floor. Remember, trust no one. Everyone will try to get info out of you. Don't bad mouth anyone. Those bad words will make it back to the nurse manager, then they will set you up and sabotage your license. Be on time, and don't rock the boat.

Yep, for my first job. I was there for a little over 3 years and it was a good outfit to work for, though the pay was pretty low a is typical of that specialty (home care).

For my second (current) job they called me to offer me the job before I made it home, but my phone's ringer was still off from being in the interview. On that one they called a reference or two before making the decision. It's an awesome job with great folks.

If the interview goes well and you're well qualified it's not necessarily suspicious if they hire you on the spot, esp. if they've been interviewing for a while.

Congrats and best of luck!!

Yes, at a couple of restaurants...oh, you mean for nursing? Yes, at a horrible nursing home that smelled like pee even at the front door. Walked in, next thing I knew I was having an interview with the DON who was wearing sandals, and got the job. It was all like a bad dream.

The good thing about PRN...if you don't like it after a day, you never have to go back.

have been hired on the spot several times - each and every one was a truly unforunate experience

Since it is a nsg home I'm sure they need a nurse ASAP!! You will mostly likely only get 3-5 days of orientation and just be thrown onto "the floor" to sink or swim. I have worked in 3 diff. nursing homes since 2003 and have found that they are all the same. To me hired by a nursing home on the spot = "RED FLAG"! Good Lock:-)

Ive been fortunate in that its happened to me a couple times. First time for my first nursing job in med surg which I am happily leaving this soon approaching feb 18th after 7 months for an allergy office job I was just offered on the spot for this past sunday..couldnt be happier to leave the crazy hospital floor which I will never work on again..and the office is well staffed, well run, doctor is very nice...I was just lucky to be in the right place at the right time and apply right when they posted the job on the internet..applied sat and got the job sunday. If you get a good "vibe" I say go for it! if they will take any warm body to fill a position asap that can be a red flag...the office Ill be working at has some older nurses who they anticipate to be retiring sooner or later and they wanted to bring me in so they arent in a bind to get someone on the staff later on if something happened unexpectedly to one of the older nurses.

"Congratulations! I would be careful though especially since they're rushing to hire you. It doesn't necessarily mean you're walking into a bad situation, because you very well could have just been at the right place at the right time and landed the job. But make it a point to learn ASAP what you've just gotten yourself into.

I always feel mixed upon hearing that someone was hired on the spot. On the one hand, I'm very happy that someone got a job in this tough economy. On the other hand, I also feel bad for the other applicant(s) for that position, each of who will be getting a phone call or letter that starts off with, "I'm sorry, but..."

wow they call and let u know they found someone?

i applied online to a city hospital 4 days ago and have a feeling they wouldnt even be that courteous
