have you been hired on the spot?

Published

I'm a new LPN started at a local hospital part-time for about one month. Today I went to an interview at a local nursing home. Surprisingly they called me three months after I sent in my resume and more surprisingly, they hired me on the spot for a casual position.

I heard a lot good things about this nursing home, but I'm still feeling stunned that they told me after the casual interview that I'm hired. I just need to bring in a physical sheet, and pass a drug screen and tb test. I'm not sure what to think :)

I wasn't hired "on the spot", but I was called back 2 hours after my interview and offered a job (which I start on Monday). :yeah:

This was a month ago. Of course it was contingent on my passing the NCLEX (which I did 2 days ago), passing the background check, physical and drug screen, (again which I did).

This was at a large hospital that is part of a national healthcare organization.

wow congratulations..i passed last month and since then ive been sending out resumes online everyday!lol but no calls as of yet..

I've applied for all postions and all shifts. I can't answer your email privately yet due to the account rules. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

I'll tell you how I did it - kind of funny actually.

I had been sending out a bunch of online applications whenever I found a position that I was interested in (before I got licensed) and didn't get any response at all.

Finally one night, I was frustrated and got on the career web page for the hospital I ended up getting hired with.

They had about 25 "experienced RN" positions available and that night I applied for every single one of them. Two days later I got a call from a chuckling recruiter who said "I have a whole lot of applications from you", we chatted for a bit, he set me up with the interview and I got the job.

Heck, there are tons of applicants out there. You have to do something to get noticed. (A little good luck helps too).

Worth a try!!! I'll do it! Meantime, if you hear of any openings, could I be your new best friend?? lol

Why not just do like we did before the use of online applications. If there is one in particular you want, just go in person. I thought about that prior to staying here. I wanted to work for Parkland and have read it takes forever for them to get back to you. I know at the county hospital here in El Paso they used to have Walk in Wednesdays where if you were a licenced RN you would come in and be interviewed on the spot. I think that if you went to some of these places with your documents in town and talked to the recruiter in person you might have a better shot. I know being 44 and a new nurse, chances are the recruiters are closer to my age and that would hold more weight in my eyes if I were in their position. Just another option.
