I have decided to start a thread for HCC future nurses that are applying for class beginning 2015 of spring. I would like us all to be able to share and relate to one another, while experiencing this exciting moment. I know it may seem a little early but better sooner then later. This will be my last semester before I can apply to the program. I am registered to take micro with lab and humanities fall 2014. I will be able to submit my application in right after my grades are posted. The deadline for the 2015 spring class is June 1st if I am not mistaken. How is everyone else holding up?
You're welcome. Yes..that's all that matters. I'm just dreading the drive. I was actually there a few weeks ago at the courthouse with my husband. On our way home I saw HCC and said sheesh I feel bad for whomever has to travel up here....and guess who got it hahaha me! I still have loans from Medical Assisting school and that was in 2004 so don't feel bad. Everything will work out for all of us! I am in summer classes now and there is a girl finishing up the PC nursing program. So I will overload her with questions hahaha and keep you guys updated!
As for the wait period, I just know it can be any time in September that we will get our letters. Accepted, rejected, and alternate seats all go out together. This spring 2014 class didn't find out until Sept. 28th, while spring of 2013 class found out on Sept 15th. So just know it can be sometime in the 3rd and 4th week of September. As for webadvisor document updates, i have noticed on the other thread that they update webadvisor as they process your application, I read some students documents showing nursing application in their docs updated as soon as July while others didn't have any updates until early September. Last year they were having teacher assignment issues also so i think last year was a bad year for them or something.
Hello, I got confirmation email that like julby and lovelylioness stated, cpr can be taken anywhere, just make sure its approved by american hear association. My CPR class is this saturday I will be taking it with bri at florida baptist hospital at 830 Saturday. If anyone wants to join please let me know so maybe we can go get lunch after the class is over.
I'm a past HCC student..Dale mabry afternoons. Just wanted to give everyone the heads up that a LOT of hospitals are moving to BSN only so to be thinking of that. I was just hired on to start at a hospital in Sun City but I had been applying for months. Most of my class has now been hired but some of them dis have to relocate..just as an FYI cuz I wish I had been given that info much earlier.
But...on a positive note..HCC is widely respected as a nursing school, you'll see that. The program is tough but AWESOME. It's a great program with wonderful professors..and your nursing classmates will be your saving grace sometimes. Lean on them when things get rough.. you will both come out closer and stronger than ever.
Good luck to everyone!

When did u graduate if u dont mind me asking. Congratulations on being a nurse! How long after graduation did u take the nclex? Did u apply everywhere or just hospitals? Have u decided to advance to BSN program? So sorry for the many questions.. im si curious how life is after. I know alot of the hospital are wanting BSN now, would they hire a ASN if he/she was working on their BSN? How were your interviews like? Thank you so much for jumping on the thread, im so grateful. .... we are grateful :)
I graduated last December 10 and I took the NCLEX less than a month later. I was officially licensed by Jan 13. And, by the way, I don't see a reason to wait to take the NCLEX. You really can't study it and the longer you're out of school, the more you risk forgetting. Just commit as much as you can to memory as you go through every class. I applied primarily at hospitals for months because that's really where I wanted to work:for the amount of experience, the pay rate, the hours, and I feel I have more room for advancement. But I did start to apply at clinics, rehab facilities, dialysis centers, even a jail. I'm more than thankful I was hired at a wonderful hospital like I had truly wanted. Yes I will most definitely be getting my BSN..soon. Once I have started working at that hospital and can apply for the tuition reimbursement with them. I'm actually very seriously considering obtaining my master's after that as well. I think some hospitals will hire you if you are working on your BSN but many have that as a requirement to to even apply. Best bet is to work at a hospital while you're in school, but make sure they would hire you on before you have the BSN..because not all will do so so you will want to ask that.
My interviews were different than I expected. I expected to be asked medical questions but it was more critical thinking through scenarios that you will encounter..and why did you want to be a nurse..etc. "typical" type interview questions. .but my friend was asked medical questions so both are possible. For me, for this last interview, I interviewed with 3 people one day and when they decided they wanted me for a full time (rather than internship that I was applying for), I came back another day and interviewed with my new boss and another supervisor. Definitely was a big ball of nerves lol but it was worth it.
And anyone can ask away...I'll answer whatever I can. I most definitely remember how it was to have SOOO many questions and no one really to ask.

wow, congrats lovelylioness23, I know its not what u wanted but the good news is, that you will ne a nurse in 2 years! yay. and we will be right behind you all. I hear the orientation is super boring. I will be getting the flash light and any other supplies i need little by little. I don't have a lot of money, and financial aid may not cover all of the expenses, I may have to take out a loan or two :/ something i didn't want. I already have loans out from a private school i attended 6 years ago. I will never do that again. Thank you for updating us.
