Hillsborough Community College - Spring 2014

Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.

What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.

I would definitely keep checking WebAdvisor in the next few days to see if it does update to reflect the change. I've got a good buddy going through this darn process with us, and he was the one to notify me this morning that something other than the status quo was showing. From what I understand in talking with a few folks is that they are processed in some mysterious order that takes into account how many credits you have taken at HCC, coupled with the order in which you ranked your campus preference, and some other factors. I'm not sure if that is actually the case, or if they just want to keep the "hocus pocus" a mystery and just tell people that!

On a side note - how many people are planning on finishing their ADN at HCC then progressing to USF's online RN to BSN bridge? I'm floating that option and perhaps SPC's BSN program - but not getting my BSN afterwards isn't an option for me. I would prefer the USF program, but if my options were limited by some factor I would consider SPC and other alternate routes. I'd be curious to see what everyone else's plans were afterwards..

PS. As something that might keep the tension off this abysmal wait and for a chuckle, I received one of these in the mail as a gift the other day - http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l90/courtbard/malenurse.jpg . It's a "Male Nurse Action Figure" for those that are wary to click on the hyperlink. :roflmao:

Well I've already done most of the bridge classes,I will be completely done in the fall. That way when I transfer to USF I will only have 30 credits left for my bachelors.

@Juleby - Yup, as have I. Statistics, Nutrition and Health, Development through the Lifespan, Ethics.. all done and awaiting bridge. I figured it would be cheaper this way

bachelors are more and more necessary now than ever,it's a competitive world nursing,we need all the edge we can get;-)

@Juleby - Agreed 100%! My end goal is to be a Psych or Oncology ARNP, so the HCC program is a major stepping stone in that direction. I'm going to have to review before the spring however, I don't want my A&P getting rusty (of course that's saying I make it into the program of course..) ;)

That sounds great,I'm sure you will;-)

Hold on to your hats ladies and gents, the following showed up on WebAdvisor "My Documents" today:

Looks like we're getting someplace! I still don't understand why they have my High School listed as 'Out of Country' -- while I didn't go to H.S. in the continental United States, it sure as heck was a *state*! :banghead:

Hello All,

My documents shows up the same as yours Deltacrux and fxcolon . I got nervous at first because of how it showed up as not recieved for the HCC Application, High School Transcript, and Nursing Prerequisites :/

I'm starting to get very worried,no documents have shown up at all in my webadvisor. I just sent them an email, I dropped it off right after fxcolon. I would just like to know that my app is at least being processed. This is very stressful.

Ughh nothing is showing up on my end yet either. Was it 6-8 weeks or 8-12 weeks until we find out whether we are in or not? I'm like seriously on edge!

@Juleby1987 and @CassieAyana: I'm sure they are just swamped with applicants. Hang in there, and I'm sure it will show up later this week. :D

We should hear something by the middle of September, CassieAyana. The early letters for last Spring came to applicants around the beginning of the second week of September. Unfortunately we've still got something of a wait ahead of us for the final decisions -- I don't think I've anticipated something this much since Christmas when I was a kid.

I'm almost looking forward to the Fall semester starting so that I have a full class load to take my mind off of waiting. I pity the poor postman that I will be stalking in September!
