Hillsborough Community College - Spring 2014

Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.

What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.

Cindy my documents just showed up a few days ago,the Only things not showing up as received are my Hcc application and prereqs which is normally what they input last. You will see yours soon:-)

Hello all, First of all Happy 4th of July!

I applied for the spring 2014 program and finally registered to the site to hopefully relieve some of the anxiety of waiting. I am applying with a gpa of around 3.5 which I'm not too confident in. I am a stay at home mommy as well and really don't care which campus I get offered as long as I am accepted into the program. I mailed my application in around May 17 and they still have not shown up under my documents. Hopefully something will show up after the holiday.

Welcome to our little 'waiting room', Nucri.

I also applied to HCC for the Spring. If I do not get in there, I plan to attend Galen in January.

mjmh I don't mean to be a downer but make sure you look into the accreditation at Galen. HCC is the BEST program in our area, especially if you plan on getting your bachelors later on. And considering the way the laws are changing it may be necessary to have a bachelors if you plan on being a nurse.

Galen just got their SACS accreditation last Friday. So hopefully I will be accepted this Spring to HCC (which is my first choice). I have a 3.6 Pre-Req GPA. If not Galen seems to be a good choice.

Wow I did not know that, that's great then. But with a 3.6 I'm sure you'll be fine. Either way at least you have some options then.

Does anyone know what the evening hours are?

Typically M/W 5-8 clinicals in saturday

mjmh, have you looked into St. Petersburg College as well? The only downfall is they give preference to Pinellas county residents.

I have a 3.72 prereq GPA (@ SPC) but am missing Statistics. My overall score is a 64 out of 70. Due to this, I was not accepted into the fall program. I do however live in Pinellas County. Does HCC give preference to people living in the Tampa area?

No, according to what I have read and heard, decisions are based off of gpa

Hello mjmh...If i were you i would have them provide you with the documentation proving they have ACCREDIDATION now, not just believe what they say. Galen is known for not telling the truth to their prospective students. Also, the difference in quality between HCC & Galen is huge and Galen also cost about $20,000 compared to $9,000 at HCC. Then you have to think if those credits will then transfer to a 4 year University so you can get your BSN which is a MUST for all new nurses if you want to work in a hospital.
