Hello all,
I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.
What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.
Awesome! The more bodies we've got, the more suggestions that get voiced. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and starting this journey together. I've had some quiet time between classes this week and was able to read some of the other semesters threads -- it looks like we're in for an interesting ride. Myself personally, I think it's going to be interesting balancing a second career coupled with a wife and a daughter...
I keep telling myself, "Well you had better enjoy
It will be an interesting ride.. good thing I've got some interesting and dedicated folks going along with me.
The interesting thing about our group is that most of us have kids,I have two under 3:-0 but it can be done with patience and discipline:-)
Wow. Yeah, I've only got one who's just turning a year old in August. She was instrumental in helping me pass my pre-reqs -- she held the flash cards on occasion . I also have fond memories of preparing for an A&P exam while my poor wife was in active labor next to me. Fun times.
I'll take a helping of that patience however. There are days between school and work that I feel like everything is going to fly apart but for some reason it all works out in the end.
Deltacrux that's amazing, your doing a great job. I think I'm becoming addicted to this site,I feel like I know you all already:-)
Hehe thanks. Sorry if I am babbling or giving too much information; just the kind of person I am to some extent. Plus, I always jabber when I'm excited about something -- and having the possibility of this dream come true is definitely exciting.
Now, if I can just stop checking WebAdvisor for every little thing.
PS. Does anyone have a contact at Records and Admissions? Having HCC listing my H.S. transcript as 'out of country' is somewhat picking at my undiagnosed OCD. lol.
Sorry I don't. "My Documents" just has my financial aid worksheet and nothing else. They have not even transferred in my credits yet from SPC. I am not sure if all my prereqs will transfer in. The wait is killing me.
I know that when I transferred my A&P I and Nutrition and Drugs from SPC it was a direct transfer with full credit. If I am not mistaken, I think SPC and HCC have an articulation agreement with each other for classes that are considered 'core' and 'program' oriented. Hang in there, mjmh. I'm sure all will be taken care of soon.
@Juleby - Thanks! I think I'll do that. I just don't want a technicality to prevent me from anything. My only hesitation is what I remember from waiting for hours in the waiting area for Student Services during my first semester a few years ago.

I was going to attend Galen, I was accepted to the Spring class of this year but really it is very expensive. Even with all of my transfer credits they said I would be paying about $25,000. & besides I live in Brandon so that was a very long commute. I did however set s back up plan in place for myself. I applied & was accepted into Erwin's September LPN class. So in case I do not get into HCC I will do LPN first then reapply later to HCC's bridge program, then eventually matriculate back to USF (I already have a BA from there) for my BSN. I had a lot going on during my undergrad, multiple surgeries plus a daughter so it was hard to complete anything but luckily I did. I'm 23 in case anyone was wondering lol but my point is that it's always good to have a backup plan. & as long as we all stick to our goals on becoming nurses then we will all be ok. If anyone doesn't get in for next semester, there are always other semesters & other programs so don't give up!
