Hello all,
I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.
What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.
Hope we find out tomorrow
I hope so too. However, going by current trends I really think it will be later next week before we hear anything. The reason being:
* If we are going to hear anything this week, its going to be close to current schedule points during the work-week (i.e. Monday, Wednesday, or Friday). That means with the mail delivering the next day in the Tampa area it would most likely be: Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday. Tuesday and Thursday have passed with nothing.
* If it is going to be this week it will most likely be on a Saturday (going by previous years trends). I'm hoping this is the case but I'm not holding my breath.
* The most likely scenario given all of these trends is that it will be late next week. If Cassy's e-mail is correct and the second week of October is the drop dead date for HCC, the first week late (i.e. Thursday or Friday) to arrive in the mail Saturday or Monday is probably the most likely.
Given all that......
It seems we're in an off-year where HCC can't seem to make up their mind as to who they are going to place in the program. For whatever reason, this stinks and has placed all of us under way too much damn stress!
So; here's a suggestion. If your in classes now, focus on your current classes and scoring as close to an 'A' as you can until letters arrive. If the most absolute drop-dead date appears likely, we can start stressing about letters around the 7th of October.
Or I could be totally wrong and HCC is laughing their proverbial butts off and taunting the living cruddo out of us. In that case... I have no clue! Anyhow.. we'll find out soon enough.
When the time comes, I will buy the first round of drinks for all of us (adult beverage or not) and we can cheer about how stupid all of this has been.
Plus, from what I have been educated with tonight in the weekly HCC Allied Health Chemistry session, perhaps we should have more Pineapple for the gals and more oysters for the men?!? Long story.. perhaps FX or Jule can enlighten the group for those that weren't there. It's too late for me. Regardless, hang in there everyone it won't be (ha!) too much longer.
Happy B-Day again FX.. and thanks for the patch. Your awesome!
P.S. For those that aren't in the current SS CHM-1032 class, we've got an awesome cohort going and I can imagine that everyone who has been following this thread will be equally as awesome. I'm pretty stoked about working with all of you to make it through this. You guys have been the best!
Hi my name is Jennifer... I just discovered this thread for HCC spring nursing students! I'm hoping to get in at the Plant City campus. I've been checking my mailbox daily, but I have still not received my letter. Just a little about myself... I've been married to my best friend for almost 5 years and we have 2 beautiful children! This is a second degree for me. I have a bachelors degree in Mass Communications from USF. My plans are to get my ADN and then move on and get my BSN through the online program at USF. I'm almost finished with the pre-reqs for the BSN program. I work as a nurses aid at LRMC. I'm really excited to start the nursing program!!
Is there anyone else that put the Plant City campus as their 1st choice?

Hello Jennifer,
Welcome to the HCC Spring 2014 class post. Lke you, many of us here have prior degrees and now are pursuing a new path with the HCC ADN program. I currently have a Phd. in "Life" from The School of hard knocks "Getto U"...:) After over 20 years in the IT field i finally decided to go back to school and persue something i've always wanted to do, Nursing! My goal is to become the BEST Trama ER nurse in the Tampa Bay area; helping those that need it most in a time of crisis. I hope you will enjoy this post as much as i do, everyone here is pretty cool... Good Luck!!!!
