Hello all,

I thought I would start a thread for those of us applying to HCC's Spring 2013 nursing program. I am a Veterinary Technician/stay at home mom. I'm gathering everything for my application and hoping to drop it off at HCC soon. The deadline isn't until 6/1 but they recommend turning it in at least 30 days in advance. I'm a current HCC student. I was planning on applying for Fall this year, but am now expecting a little girl to arrive in July so spring it is! My pre-req GPA is 3.86 (all A's and 1 B), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program for DM evening classes. Good luck to all!

hey guys thanks so much for your wonderful responses, i will see what i can do when i talk to my counselor tomorrow. The LPN option sounds great, i wasn't aware that I could do that. My goal is nursing, I know that if given the opportunity I'd be a great nurse. And I also am looking into the radiology program as moneek said, my grades aren't god awful terrible (five As and three Cs in MAT, SOC & Anatomy II), so I know that I can most likely get accepted into other programs.

Oh my gosh.....I went to the er Friday night and I didn't get home until Saturday afternoon. Then I slept all day yesterday and most of today. Just imagine my surprise when I checked to see what was going on here tonight! After checking the mailbox 20 times a day for the last two weeks I missed my letter. Mad dash to get the post and Yeeeeehaaaaaa I got in!!!!!

Hi everyone,

My name is Brian and I just got into the program as well. I'm torn on which campus and time to pick! I'm going to be living in New Tampa, so a hop on the interstate to PC is most likely, but I'll be willing to any of them, it would just be a longer commute time. I hope we can find out what got sooner rather than later because I would need to map out a work schedule with any school pr clinical days obviously not being work days. I think I'd prefer the afternoon classes just because I've never been a morning person (man that clinical will be an adjustment for me!).

I've been the reading the thread of the class that just started and it looks like everything was all decided last minute with a mad rush to get vaccinations and titers done, get books (which weren't available), uniforms, ect.. Not even campus assignments were received until late and a lot of people couldn't even access Blackboard. I think it may of had to do with the fact that we were coming out of summer with a lot of school staff not being in the office. Anyway, I hope we get information at orientation in order to get started on this stuff. I actually wish I could start right now! Looking forward to being in one of THE BEST professions all around! I want to start reading those books and learning!

Anyone thinking of trying to go for LPN after the first year in order to start getting some nursing experience part time? I'm not even quite sure they hire LPNs anymore..

Hi everyone,

Welcome, first off.

Second... we can do that? I know after Semester 1 I think I read we are CNA eligible, but we're LPN eligible after Semester 2? Is that what you're saying?

I didn't get in :( I got a denial letter my gpa was a 3.1. I knew those three C's that I got before I decided to do nursing would hurt me.

I am so lost and sad right now, I dont know what to do now. Anyone have any helpful ideas?

What were your C's in? If not A&P1, you might want to try the PHCC route. I started with my classes there but was discouraged due to the TEAS test. They only require AP1, Computer Applications, Nutrition and General Psy as their pre reqs. You have to take AP2, Micro, Ethics, English Comp 1 once you are in the program. Otherwise, you might consider Erwin LPN and do the LPN to RN. Good luck!

I live in the New Tampa/ Wesley Chapel area too. I am hoping for DM am classes as first option then debated whether PC or southshore. I have decided that Southshore might be easier going south on I75 than trying to go up I4 since that always has traffic delays. good luck to you and who knows we might end up in the same class.

Trying to decide my campus assignments! Probably going with Dm 9 -1 or 1 -4, but I loooove the Southshore campus. Everything is bright, shiny, and new there. I also looked up class days and times and it looks like no more Fridays off for me. Booooooo. I so love scheduling all my classes Monday through Thursday. What to do, what to do. Does anyone know if they keep the same days and times for NP1, 2, ect every semester or if it changes each time? Thanks!

Also Congrats to all who made it in!!!!! Have heart those that did not, anything can happen.

I live in South Tampa and have taken several classes at Southshore. Everything is brand new and clean there. The only time I ever had traffic was if there was an accident. I loved it! BTW I will probably be putting DM AM as my first choice, 1 - 4 as my second, and SS third, so maybe we can get through the next 2 years together!

I recently moved from Carrollwood to Land O Lakes. Driving anywhere other than the DM campus would really be a pain! I chose DM NW, DM afternoon, DM morning, PC afternoon, PC morning, then SS. I really need the nights and weekends in order to coordinate childcare and getting the kids to school. Fingers crossed. I mailed in the two forms today as well, and will be doing the background check tomorrow :)

P.S. I hope your letter comes in today Gradius!

I'm curious about this too. It might be worth it to do a part time LPN position in order to get your foot in the door. Most places are on the fence about ASN new grads, and most new grad RN residency programs require you to have a BSN. I will however be immediately applying to USF RN-BSN once I pass the NCLEX.

What days were the Southshore classes? I am putting DM am as my 1st choice and mostlikely Southshore am as my 2nd choice.
