Is anyone else planning on applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program? I know it is really early, but I am just too excited. I want other people to share my excitement with!! :)

If you go to the HCC search for sections site search Fall 17 nursing it only shows 1 southshore for nursing I... if you were informed other wise I'd email health sciences.

Yeah i just relized it says daytime cohort lol still works for me

Good! I am glad to hear. That would be horrible for anyone to get accepted and not able to go because the hours didn't work for them... I'd cry.

Southshore mornings . My first choice . So happy

Im South shore too! Can't wait to meet ya :)

Hey guys. I just finished spring semester at HCC (evening/weekend). I had Joe Niemcurza this semester also known as as Joe. I can answer any questions you guys have about the program (obviously more about Joe). Let me know!

Before I get questions. Let's just say RN school here is no joke. Community college may have a different ring to it for non RN students but Nursing here is very...challenging. My class has a majority of students with different degrees (bachelors, masters) but we all passed in my section. Each professor who teaches the sections are very different.

Evening weekend is Joe this semester as well.

Hey! Thanks for the heads up. I have a few questions if you don't mind...

1- is anyone doing the HCC USF concurrent program that you know of? If so any details about it?

2- what's the book package price if you remember?

3- were there a lot of people who dropped out?

i have more questions. It I guess that's a start. lol

Thanks in advance. :-?

Question 1: I can't give an answer to this because it was not available for students starting spring. I heard about it and it seems like a great option. However, the word is HCC is opening a BSN program so this might be going out the door (again speculation)

2. Everyone is Elsevier. BUY the text and e book option (if you can). I had access to my textbooks everywhere. I work fulltime so I read the chapters at work before coming to class (my first exam had 10 chapters...). Price was 850 with tax.

3. No one dropped out of my section but Joe is very fair. He grades his exam like NCLEX. Again this is very professor specific, so I can't say how DM mornings or afternoons are.

Ask away. We had to take it by stride because our professor just started teaching here this semester. Which sucks for us because we are also getting a brand new professor again.

Thank you too much for answering these questions, it really helps.

Sooo.... lol... here I go:

4- Did you only have one professor for the entire 10 credits? Like is the class broken down into 2-3?

5- How are labs done? Random? Specified hours?

6- Would you recommend using a planner?

7- Did Clinical sites change during the semester or was it just one site?

8- I think I heard you have to take the HESI or portions of it during the semester. Is this equivalent to a NCLEX review?

9- With you working, do you have much time to dedicate to studying? Like how many hours would you say you actually study?

10- Did you take any other classes during the semester?

Also, I think HCC getting a BSN program would be amazing and a lot cheaper.

Was orientation overwhelming at all? Was it a lot of information? Ours is next week.

Love your questions. Hopefully more will see the answers and gain perspective.

4. We had 1 professor for all lecture exams. You will have another professor (or the same professor for clinicals). For clinical, your first four weeks are in the simulation lab. There, all professors for your section are present. Basically we all did a summary of lecture that we had the week prior and then we were split into our clinical groups so we could meet our clinical instructors. Your clinical grade is pass/fail and it's based on your performance in the hospital and the care plans you turn in. This doesn't affect the letter grade you receive in lecture unless you fail clinical. You CANNOT miss clinical. Ever. If you miss you have to have a great reason for missing and you WILL make it up.

5. Lab..Lab is weird. You have to have 15 "lab" hours to pass the semester. This means you have to go to open lab throughout the semester to gain these hours. This is separate from clinical and lecture. It's essentially open lab where you practice the skills you learned and the instructor there will check you off. The rule of thumb. 7.5 hours the first half and 7.5 hours the latter half of the semester.

6. I used a planner but by the end the schedule was routine so it didn't help me much. We had an exam every 1.5 weeks. So once that exam ended, the studying for the next started. My advice don't dwell and move on studying for the next.

7. No site changes. I heard this only changes for Labor/Delivery/Mental health third semester.

8. HESI...lol. You take a practice Hesi midterm and a final HESI. The final HESI for us counted as our last regular exam worth the same as a regular exam. Most of us did fine.

9. I had a bachelors already so I already had my routine as I worked fulltime for my BS in bio. I had very little free time as I earned my A. It was difficult but Worth it. Time management is key. If 3/4s of my class could manage working fulltime and passing RN with an A or B then anyone can. I've never been in a room full of such dedicated students. We were all VERY stressed, but we have stuck together.

10. No. I did not and most of us did not. Take them over the summer semesters if you have any other stuff needed.

orientation was easy. We learned about the program and such. It is hard but it's a great journey. Enjoy and ask away if you have any other questions.

Thank you too much for all the insight. It's beyond appreciated!!!! If I can think of anything else I'll definitely ask you.

I'm sure others will start asking questions once they see this.

I hope you've been enjoying your street free summer.
