Hillsborough Community College-Fall 2014

Published

Hello everyone,

So my dream since I can remember has been to become a nurse; however, it seems as if it will never happen. I recently finished my pre-requisite courses to apply to the fall semester of the HCC nursing program. While I did not get any C's I made mostly B's :blink:earning A's in two classes and one lab. I realize this is not good enough since it puts my GPA at around a 3.38. Since I did not fail any of my classes, I don't believe I will be able to retake them. Is there any possible way to retake them? Or any way to increase my GPA since they mainly look at the pre-requisite courses? If not, what other options do I have for becoming a nurse? If anyone is out there who could offer any help it would be greatly appreciated. I will submit my application regardless but I don't have any high hopes of getting accepted, if there is anyway to increase my chances I would be so grateful to find out!

That is so so great to know Juleby. Thank you so much for the useful information. :)

Juleby, once accepted in the program, are you able to look up various professors and pick certain ones that you prefer?

@ bla bla bla...Juleby...What are you doing scaring our future classmates? :nailbiting: Hello All, Juleby and i are in the same NP1 class together and have been lab partners through out all or class's leading upto NP1 so i can abuse her a little bit..:-) It was not to long ago we were in your shoes so i know how you feel. Like Juleby said, try and read the book "Critical Thinking Fundamentals Success" you can get it at the DM book store. It will help you to prepare for the types of questions you will see once you are in the program. Also, try and get all your shots, cpr cert and all that stuff done early. Not long after orientation you will begin to get reading assignments from your teachers and then the fun begins. Ok...enough for today. I need to get back to studying for tomorrows test.

Yes and no. For example, once your assigned to a class that's your class for the rest of the program. However,at orientation if you find someone willing to switch campuses then they allow you to do that. This is rare though becaue almost everyone gets their top pick and doesn't want to change professors. I will say though that I've met many NP professors and they have ALL been very sweet and helpful. So you have nothing to worry about. ;-)

Thanks. Good luck on your test and God Bless.

You too!

Hello everyone! I am new to this thread....I also applied for the fall 2014 nursing program at HCC. I was looking at the threads for the fall 2013 and spring 2014 entrances for the nursing program just to get an idea of the GPA cutoffs. I saw that some ppl with 3.8 GPAs got alternate seats in the fall 2013 class. I don't know how that happened, but it shocked me. I definitely want to get in, and I'm hoping my 3.83 will get me there. I also noticed that the fall 2013 class didn't get their admittance letters until the middle of April. So we may have a long wait ahead of us! :nailbiting:

We may not hear anything until April.... I may try to find a part time work at hone job. I'm married and we have three kids, so we're trying to savve on daycare.

Hi guys! Glad I found this board. I missed the cutoff for the Spring 2014 due to family issues, but had all my paperwork filled out since May and turned it in such a long time ago that I have been staring at "received" since Halloween!! If we need to wait until April, then April will not come soon enough!!!! I am so anxious :nurse:

Hello guys!! I'm glad I'm not alone in this journey!! :nurse:. I really hope we receive the good news sooner than April

Hey guys! I also applied for Fall 2014. I haven't taken a lot of classes at HCC. Most of mine are from Polk. Also my GPA is only about a 3.52. It's not looking very promising for me.
