hello! i just joined this lovely and informative site after lurking for a few weeks. i'm planning to apply for the program after this fall semester. (need to finish a&pII and college algebra).
who else?! :)
edit: can someone walk me through the application process? i know it's pretty easy, but i like knowing 100%! i'm not sure if an adviser would help me much. i know you need high school transcripts, an hcc application and a nursing application. then you just gather all the papers (including money?) in like a.... manila envelope and mail away? or can you electronically send your high school transcripts to them? thank you.
Nick I have high hopes that it will be well worth it! The person who first put the nursing school "bug" in my ear was a graduate of the program and had good things to say about it. I don't doubt the program is difficult and grueling but my Micro prof said HCC had a pretty high board pass rate so seems like they put you through hell for a good reason, lol.
Hey everyone! Just checked my Hawkmail account and saw that MF responded to one of my emails. She says that the "documents needed ASAP" mystery in the "My Documents" section of WebAdvisor simply means that they have not processed your application yet (not that they haven't received it). Once it's been processed then they'll update that section. Not sure if that calms any nerves or not but hope so :)
i got another response from mf today, too. i had e-mailed her to ask if they could confirm my gpa according to their calculations...(i know, wishful thinking, but it never hurts to ask!!) i also asked if she could tell me when we might be getting acceptance/rejection letters. here is what she wrote:
[color=#17365d]"unfortunately, i am not able to inform you what your prerequisite gpa is right now. we are currently processing hundreds of applications. the health sciences committee hopes to meet either at the end of february or the first week of march. "

just reading those three words "hundreds of applications" is unnerving to me! also...for those who have not read all of the comments from the hcc spring 2010 thread...here is the timeline (based upon the dates of the comments).
their application deadline was april 15th, 2009.
they received "rank your campus" letters around july 21st.
the health sciences (selection) committee met september 15th. (5 months after the application deadline!!!)
they received acceptance/rejection letters sept. 19th-27th (via us mail).
they received campus assignments in late october.
november 18th-19th was their orientation.
so...we will be way "ahead of schedule" compared to the spring application process if the committee meets late feb./1st week of march like she says.
i just wanted to share this with everyone...we could be in for a long road ahead in this process. i would rather be thinking that it could be june before we know if we are in or not, and be pleasantly surprised when it happens sooner than that!!
good luck to you all!! and yes...it will be worth the wait!!

Nick,
I would hope we'll know around March!!!
I was talking to someone in one of my classes last semester who got accepted, and they said that there was around 400 applicants for this spring. If the lowest you heard was a 3.2, I think we should be in pretty good shape (crosses fingers)! When I sat down with an advisor, she told me there were around 113 seats available, and that was before Southshore opened. So let's say around 1 in 4 people get accepted?! I think those are pretty good odds .
Hello :)
I am currently an HCC nursing student and I wanted to let you all know who are applying for Fall 2010, that last year, the application deadline was January 15th, the committee met early March, and I received my acceptance letter by the end of March. From what it sounds like, they tend to move more quickly for the Fall applicants, so you should know by the end of March/early April, if you have been accepted. Orientation was in June, and we were in communication with our professors for NP1 by the end of June/early July regarding our clinical locations, reading/skills for Fall. It goes by very fast.
My recommendation is, sit tight. It was hard to get ANY info out of anyone as far as finding out if I was accepted. There are no "tricks" or hints in hawknet that I know of. Just check the mail every day from mid-March on, and hope for the best!! :)
The program is intense, but very good, and the reputation of HCC nurses is great out there at the clinical sites and from other nurses/nurse managers that I have spoken to. Good luck to everyone, the journey is worth it!!
Hi SQUEEN, sorry for the delay in my response. I will keep you posted. My check still has not been cashed and i am making myself sick worring about all this. If i were sure of my gpa then maybe i could feel a bit better. I am constantly reading info on the internet about the past classes but i think it is making me feel worse. I will keep you posted...you do the same please.
