hello! i just joined this lovely and informative site after lurking for a few weeks. i'm planning to apply for the program after this fall semester. (need to finish a&pII and college algebra).
who else?! :)
edit: can someone walk me through the application process? i know it's pretty easy, but i like knowing 100%! i'm not sure if an adviser would help me much. i know you need high school transcripts, an hcc application and a nursing application. then you just gather all the papers (including money?) in like a.... manila envelope and mail away? or can you electronically send your high school transcripts to them? thank you.
I wish I knew!!! The manual only mentioned that they would be accepting MAC1105 or higher courses for the spring 11 and up acceptance. I would think they would take your best (hoepfully). I've taken all the way up to precalc but got my only math A in college algebra. I wish they had all their processes posted. I think it would let us all sleep a little easier.
when I went to see the advisor before classes last summer, she gave me that information. I have taken all the way to calc 2 and have A's and B's in all 6 of my math classes except for that C in college algebra; and she said that they would choose one of my higher math classes. I was just wondering of anyone heard something similar.
p.s.I turned in my application on Jan 13th and got back my self addresses stamped envelope on Jan 16th.
Hi Kmangirl...
FYI...I know that they will NOT accept a higher level ENGLISH...Here's how I know: I had to take my freshman Eng. Pass/Fail (at another university), and instead of calculating my GPA using a higher level English, they just reduced the number of credit hours for the GPA calculation (to 18 instead of 21). Just thought I would let you know...but I am not certain on what they will do with the Math.
Good luck!
This is what I read about the math
"Course substitutions. For most programs, if a student has taken a higher level math than the math required for the specific program, that course may be used for the required course. However, there are certain programs that require a specific math course and a higher level math cannot be substituted for the required course. Refer to the specific program eligibility criteria in this handbook to determine whether or not a higher level math or statistics course can be applied instead of the required course."
Next to nursing it just says no statistic course may be used, so I think you're in good shape as far as the higher level math course is concerned.
& nick, I am in the same boat as you. I passed the AP exam for my ENC1101!!! So i guess my GPA was just lowered by .5 points... great.
Squeen...that really stinks! It DID hurt my GPA, but not by .5 ! I am so sorry. What does that make your GPA, now?
I think we should write the Dean of Students concerning this...because we should NOT be penalized for taking higher level classes. With their choice to just reduce the number of credits used to calculate our GPA, they are amplifying the effect of any imperfections in our other classes... Simply NOT fair!
it's a 3.55 now. I did a little reading of older posts, and someone with a 3.38 gpa got accepted to the spring semester. If this becomes a reason why I'm not accepted, I'm appealing. It's ridiculous! If they are willing to take a higher math, then why not english? My AP high school class was harder than the comp 2 I took in college!! NOT FAIR!
Squeen...
You should be just fine!! I know of someone else that got in with a 3.2 last semester. I know that it is SO hard not to worry... I am quite the worrier, myself. BUT...IF something DOES go wrong you would have a GREAT appeal case!! Let's hope that you never even have to deal with that!
Kmangirl...I turned my app. in on Jan. 5th, received the e-mail on the 13th...and they still have NOT cashed my check. This whole process seems WAY TOO RANDOM for me!!
It's random indeed Nick. I've been in the process of trying to get my address changed for over two weeks now (so when that beautiful acceptance letter IS sent it comes to the correct address :)) to no avail. The person that emailed me back told me to "go to the admissions window". If I had an opportunity to go to the window I wouldn't be emailing the school trying to handle this online, duh! They actually had to look for the address change button in WebAdvisor and somehow make it reappear since they said it had disappeared from the screen. What the HECK does that mean? Anywho, the button's back but the online address change still hasn't gone through. I guess I'll be forced to take time off from work to go handle this.*sigh*

@squeen13 I'm glad you received your postcard! :)
@tebyrd0020 also glad to hear your check was cashed! I'm sure they would have mentioned something in the postcard if they had a missing document. Maybe.... lol.
