Hillsborough Community College Fall 2010

Published

hello! i just joined this lovely and informative site after lurking for a few weeks. i'm planning to apply for the program after this fall semester. (need to finish a&pII and college algebra).

who else?! :)

edit: can someone walk me through the application process? i know it's pretty easy, but i like knowing 100%! i'm not sure if an adviser would help me much. i know you need high school transcripts, an hcc application and a nursing application. then you just gather all the papers (including money?) in like a.... manila envelope and mail away? or can you electronically send your high school transcripts to them? thank you.

I am graduating from the HCC program in a few weeks. It is best to send everything as one packet. This is the best way to ensure that nothing gets lost. In fact, anything you turn into this program make sure you make a copy of because they WILL lose things. This school bases entrance solely on GPA. Basically, if 500 people apply and there are only 130 spots, they put everyone in order of GPA highest to lowest and start at the top and count down 130 spaces. Then they choose a certain number of alternates. There are a lot of rumors that nobody gets in on the first time applying. That is bogus and not true. I was accepted the first time and so were 75 or so other people. The lowest GPA they accepted for my term 3.14. So believe me it is possible, and there is hope.

I would say that when you do apply depending on where you live or course, i would recommend the Dale Mabry campus. I attended the Plant city campus and it was a horrible experience. we always got stuck with brand new teachers, and the nursing lab at plant city is pathetic. The dale mabry campus is allotted way more money. So anyways, like every program, HCC has it's problems. In the end, you are going to finish, and you will be a nurse!!! no worries :) I hope this helps you.

Violet0069, if you don't mind me asking-what was your GPA? I"m trying not to scare myself but will have between a 3.5 and a 3.61 when I apply. Not sure if I should feel comfortable and confident or scared :(

Also, I plan to do nights and weekends at Plant City starting in the Fall. Is the program truly that horrific, like have you walked away feeling like you didn't learn much because of the school's lack of resources? What hospitals did you do your clinicals at?

Hello

Can anyone tell me how long is the program... it says 4 semesters but is that consecutive? And if I apply to this school I will be applying from Dade county does anyone knows weither or not they give priority to students in their district area?

Thanks

it's 4 semesters with summers off. so 2 years basically. i don't know about priority based on district area. i was told by the school it's all based on gpa. best of luck!! ;-)

Going to submit my app week after next! I'm sooooooo nervous. Any more Plant City fall hopefuls?

best of luck- i remember very well the long anxious wait. make sure to include a self-addressed stamped postcard so you know they received your application with everything included (plus keep a copy of all your docs)

That's a good idea! So they return the postcard once they've received everything?

I am dropping off my application in person on Tuesday at the Dale Mabry Campus!! Now...the painstaking WAIT!! I am applying for Dale Mabry Daytime program...any others out there doing the same?? I simply can NOT believe that they make us wait so long to find out if we are in, and then, to begin!!!

Good luck everyone!!

I'm dropping mine off tomorrow (hope they're open!). Applying for PC nights/weekends. Here goes everything

Tebyrd, I hope you get this in time...they are NOT open tomorrow. They don't re-open until Monday, the 4th. Check it out on the Hawknet main page.

Take care!

Thank you for saving me the trip!!!! Monday it shall be :)

It's OFFICIAL...I dropped off my application today. I didn't really feel too good about dropping my application into a DROP BOX...but I guess it is better than trusting the mail?? Now...the wait begins.

I am praying that my "C" in Sociology from TWENTY YEARS AGO doesn't keep me out of this program!! (WHO KNOWS why I got a C??? I don't even remember!!) I also took Pass/Fail Freshman English (that's the only way it was offered at the time)...which DEFINITELY DOES NOT help matters. Here is why, for any others out there that took it that way:

Your GPA for the HCC Nursing Program is calculated by your grades in the following 21 credit hours:

Freshmen English 3 credits

Sociology 3 credits

College Algebra 3 credits

A & P I 3 credits

A & P I LAB 1 credit

A & P II 3 credits

A & P II LAB 1 credit

Micro 3 credits

Micro LAB 1 credit

IF you took Freshmen English as a PASS/FAIL course, HCC (instead of substituting a HIGHER LEVEL ENGLISH CLASS) reduces the number of credits for your GPA calculation, to 18 credits.

For me...that means that my one "C" in Sociology carries alot more weight!

Just thought I would mention it for any others wondering about the Pass/Fail credit situation.

Good luck to you all!

Tebyrd...did you submit your application yesterday as planned?

Hope so!
