hello! i just joined this lovely and informative site after lurking for a few weeks. i'm planning to apply for the program after this fall semester. (need to finish a&pII and college algebra).
who else?! :)
edit: can someone walk me through the application process? i know it's pretty easy, but i like knowing 100%! i'm not sure if an adviser would help me much. i know you need high school transcripts, an hcc application and a nursing application. then you just gather all the papers (including money?) in like a.... manila envelope and mail away? or can you electronically send your high school transcripts to them? thank you.
Squeen....
Try buying an NCLEX-RN book...that'll be a GREAT distraction!
Seriously...I bought the Kaplan version and every night I do some questions...I am almost all the way through the first practice test. Even though I am lacking the technical knowledge on some of the questions, I have learned alot about the style of questions and strategies to use.
Just an idea... : )
I bought the Kaplan NCLEX-RN Strategies for the Registered Nursing Licensing Exam, 2010 Edition. That is one thing to remember...we are 2+ years away from taking this test, and they come out with a new edition every year...
I bought it anyway, at Barnes and Noble. I DID finally buy the Potter & Perry text, and OUCH...it is a VERY DRY READ!!! I haven't made it through Chapter One yet, as it literally puts me to sleep every time!! (Anyone with insomnia...take note!!)
I've done the first few chapters in the Clinical Calculations book...it is VERY helpful!
This all may sound INSANE to some, but if I can get a jumpstart and make my life easier down the road for myself (and minimize the impact on my family)...I have to do it!
Sorry Tebyrd...forgot to answer your question about it being abstract. There are 12 (short) chapters about the test, specific strategies, types of questions, the test format, etc... Then, there is a practice test, with answers and detailed explanations. There is a second Practice test on the CD-Rom that is included. Then, there is a section on Nursing Terminology, common medical abbreviations, etc. There are some questions that simply can NOT be answered b/c of a lack of knowledge (on Meds, specific techniques, etc...), but there are a TON of them that once you study the strategies (and assuming that you retained a fair amount of info. from A&P...) you can answer correctly! Personally, I have been keeping the book in the car, and when I am waiting for the children in the car line, I quiz myself. It actually has become kind of a fun challenge...
Hope this helps!!
I am going to have a very chaotic household... Between my boyfriend studying for the LSAT and me (God willing) studying for the NCLEX! There will be much alcohol consumed!
I am so appreciative for all you guys willing to help and calm my nerves. I would literally go insane if I didn't have you guys helping me figure out what's going on.
We're all going to be drunk avid prayers by the time this process is over, lol. Thanks Nick! I think I'm afraid to start studying which sounds weird. I need to move past the fear and be productive. As opposed to being on Twitter I could be studying something. And since my memory is shabby at best I sure as heck need to review EVERYTHING from A & P 1 and 2! Made it up to the school to get my adress changed though finally :)
Don't worry Kman, it's coming.
SO funny, Tebyrd...I was on Facebook when I got your response!!
You know what...after studying so hard for the pre-reqs, I just can NOT sit idle even if I AM unsure of getting in. I am too scared that I will allow myself to get "comfortable", and then not do well when the REAL deal begins. The little person perched on the other shoulder says..."awww, come on, take a break while you can!!!"
EVERYTHING in moderation!!
