What is the highest hourly rate people have seen? Highest I have seen is $44. I am not talking about blended rates and yes I realize there are other components to compensation such as housing, benefits, etc.

Just wanna know what the highest hourly rate is, location, company?

I imagine when faststaff sends nurses in on a strike for a few weeks they can get some high hourly rates. Anyone care to share? Thanks!

I spoke with a recruiter with a travel nursing company and she works in the ICU in Jacksonville and she said they only pay $23/hr as an RN with benefits. She said that N.E. Fla doesn't pay well. Is the cost of living less than central or southern Fla??

I am in south west fla.

central ms new grads will look at anywhere from $18-21/hr at any place worth it's salt, then most places will give you different diffs for certs and shifts ect.. we have prime care nurse staffing at our hospital and they make around $35 and ot on hollidays and weekends. at a partitme job there was a few rns in er and icu with fast staff and onassignment they were making around $35-38/hr.

depends on where you go and what kind of demands you have. I have been a nurse for 3 years and I tell my recruiter not to even tell me anything below $35 + housing and insurance and most of those had better have some kind completion $ attached. But, I will be the first to say in return I normlly don't have the best apt among all the travelers there and that is where the extra cash comes in

One question to add:

I have thought about traveling for some time. I have spoken to a few of the companies, I have never received a quote above $30 an hour. Wonder what I am doing wrong?

I am in south west fla.

The cost of living in northwest Florida is actually higher then in central or south Florida. While food, gas, and so on is the about the same, it seems that housing has gone above what other parts of Florida pay. Also our county, Bay County, has the highest property tax millage rate in the state.:o

Bay county FL it has always been a very low paying area, every time some industries would come in or attempt to come in, our good old boy county commission would do everything to ensure they are not paying much more then minimum wage. This has only recently began to change. The county in the past has missed out on a AB Brewery, a theme park, and many more good paying jobs due to this BS.

We have a Sallie Mae service center here that employs about 800 and they bet about 60% of what their counter parts in Wilkes Barre PA make! When Verizon open a service center they wanted to offer $10 an hour starting pay back in the late 90's, and after our commissioners pressured them they started people of at $7.25.

The only reason I live here is because all of my family is here and after having worked overseas for 15 years I was able to come back and buy a house cash, otherwise I would likely live someplace else!

You need a GOOD recruiter, and a good company. You also need a specialty and flexibility in location. (willing to travel) Lots of assignments out there for specialties paying over $35 per hour, with all housing and travel costs included. TONS, in fact!

I am really surprised by the low hourly rates. I make 47-57 as an ICU floatpool nurse (night shifts) in the Midwest. I would love to travel for at least one 13 week contract, but don't think I could make what I am making right now. Of course, I do have to pay for my own apartment and utilities, but it doesn't seem that I could make comparable rates. At this point, I dont care where I would even go -- I'd just like a change of scenery.

Some of the hourly rates sound rather outlandish and unrealistic. If you are really making $50 an hour, great ! that would be even better for overtime pay! I am a staff nurse in northwest Florida and barely make $20 an hour, and only because I work ICU which gives you a -WOOT- $1 more for specialty pay, and have been in nursing a few years now.

Our hospital starts new nurses of at $17.01 and many think they have it made, because in the area here, thats monster $$$$.

Local travelers make $ 25 to 28 an hour and feel like hogs in you know what heaven.

Guess I need to move.

I think the rates sound "outlandish and unrealistic" to you because of your location. I live in California and work as a staff nurse and I average about $42 an hour after differentials. (night and weekend differentials) Experienced nurses in the Los Angeles area average $32-$45/hour. The new grad rate is about $28 here. I had a coworker who moved to the East Coast (North Carolina) to work and she went from making in the 30's here to making in the 20's in North Carolina. Location..Location..Location.. I'm actually thinking of taking a travel assignment in the Midwest so I think I better do my homework before I go because I don't want to take a significant decrease in pay.

A lot of these rate seem exaggerated. A good rate would be roughly $42-50/hr including your non taxables and not including housing or health insurance. I've seen 401K agency match as well along with travel reimbursements, loylty and referal bonuses.

There s no traveler making $50/hr including housing, health insurance etc. I've done my homework and that is just an exaggeration.

I agree with travelnurse229 - there is a bit of difference here unless what is being quoted is actually agency rates rather than travelers (with no benefits, housing, etc being taken out). Remember too that as agency you don't have guaranteed hours and are usually the first cancelled (so the bottom line can vary) unlike travelers who may (should) have guaranteed hours in their contract.

Also when considering rates, especially as in comparing CA to areas in the East, stop to consider the cost of living - not only housing but taxes, utilities, groceries, gas,etc..
