hello, are there any pre nursing students here that would like to dicuss anything? i would like to but it seems nobody wants to reply to anything....i know ya'll are out there :lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2:  what classes are you taking, how is it? :clown:

I'm a pre-nursing student.:) I am hoping to start the ADN program at a local college, but I have my BA already so I only have to take three classes and take the HESI entrance exam. I registered for Anatomy and Physiology I with lab this upcoming semester and then next semester I will take A&P II and Human Development. Then I will take the HESI, (if I don't take it sooner) and apply. I'm hoping to do very well in A&P because it will boost my confidence that I can do this. I did very well in college and really love learning. I'd be a student forever if I could! I struggle with math, so I'm going to be brushing up on that over the next few months, with plenty of practice. Good luck to everyone!

Hi LouLou55! I'm also a pre-nursing student for LPN program @ a tech school! I'm kinda stressed out because I just took the entrance test today and missed it by ONE point!! to top it off i have to wait 30 days before retaking it! but oh well i know i will get it next time, then i have to take the Pax test, which im also nervous about! but i know sooner or later i will be able to get into the program! Are you taking your lpn @ a tech school or regular college? well hope all goes well for you! Good luck in everything! :)

Hello all!

I just signed up for this site so I'm really excited to talk to others who are nurses or going to be nurses one day.

I am currently in Anatomy. It's the advanced summer semster so it's the only class I am taking so I don't mess it up. It's only 8 weeks, and I am done the first week of August. :) Fall semester I am taking intro to Chem so I can then take Micro and Physio and college math. After that, I can apply to my ADN program. I have been waiting 2 years to get into anatomy so while I was waiting I took English, Nutrition, Fundamentals of Speech, and Scociology.

I can't wait to finally be in the nursing program. :) My college does the entry based on grades. Anyone else having to worry about this? As it stands now my pre-req GPA is a 4.0 with a total GPA of 3.86. I'm nervous of course, but I will work hard to make it happen! :nurse:

I'm in a somewhat similar position to katoswife. I already finished my BA in psychology and am currently working on a PhD in public health & psychology, but I decided that I want a clinical career. I still want to do public health research and policy work, but having worked with my participants in a research setting I really want to provide direct care. I would love to go into nursing research or fill the gap for nursing educators in the future. But my position is similar to hers because my fiance is in the military, and I need something more flexible than academia with the strong possibility that we'll be moving around. So I've decided to use my last two years of this PhD program to do my prerequisites, and then go to an accelerated BSN program and then into an MSN program to be a WHNP (or a direct-entry BSN/MSN program).

I've already got the social science/humanities requirements and the statistics. I'm trying to start chem I this fall, with the idea that I'll take chem II in the spring, A&P over the summer and developmental psych (despite being a PhD student - dev is not my focus) and microbiology next fall while I apply to programs (I should be finished with this PhD in May 2013, and perhaps begin the BSN accelerated program in the summer of 2013). But because it's so late in the game, not sure. I also have a lot of public health research experience via my program, but I'm also planning to volunteer at a hospital (I live down the street from one).

Guess I'm a pre-nursing student too! :) I have one year of prerequisites part time left before I can enter the nursing program. I'm close to completing an Associates degree in General studies but decided to go for nursing instead. So far I've done Comp, Algebra, Chemistry, Nutrition & Diet Therapy. I start my CNA class Monday (3 weeks long, it's required for the ADN program) then I'll take Psychology, A&P 1 and 2 and Human Growth & Development over the next school year. Hoping to start my ADN program Fall 2012. Can't wait!

Pre-nursing here but my school calls it Foundations of Health in MA. I am starting in Fall Bio 103, ENG 101, PSY 110 and Math 095 unless I can pass math test. If I do I will try to pick up either Soc 110 or NTR 101

Is anyone taking the prerequisites while working full time or juggling other obligations? Like I said I am in a PhD program and I estimate that all of my term-time commitments take 60-70 hours a week. I only want to take one pre-req at a time because I only have the sciences to do, and I have at least four semesters and two summers before I graduate (and don't mind waiting a year or so to finish them up). I'm trying to figure out whether I'm crazy to attempt to take Chemistry I with that much work.

I was working full-time when I took Chem, Developmental Psych, and some other random class...I got an A in all three so it's not impossible to work and get good grades...Chem isn't my strongest subject, either, so I had to work pretty hard for that A but with time management I was able to do it...I'm going to assume you're not a slacker since you're working on a PhD...You'll do fine :)

Hi!

I'm just starting out too. I went for Cosmetology a while back and then the economy crashed and I realized it just wasn't such a great long term career choice for me...more of a side job  BUT then i realized I have to start FROM SCRATCH since no classes transfer or count towards any AS or BS degree. waaahhh :smackingf

Now here I am at 28 starting all over again and not so happy about it. I just wish I had done it years ago. The only thing now I'm wondering is what classes to take. I may be moving soon so I don't want to get into a program that will lock me in but yet I dont want to wait to take all my prereqs until I leave. I am so anxious to start seeing as how I've wasted so much time already.

What classes would you guys suggest I start on at my CC? I'm thinking most of them are going to be needed in most all nursing/respiratory therapy programs(i havent decided which route to go yet). Would you suggest I just take like an English, Math and Science? I know I'll need Bio so possibly one of those?? I don't want to take something that wont be needed!

What do you suggest??

Thanks!! --Oh are any of you in South Florida or Philly area(where I may be moving)??

Hi Indecisive!

Don't feel like you've wasted any time or are getting a late start...I'm 29 and have been going to college off and on for 11 years...I won't be a nurse until I'm 32 and that's if I don't have to wait to get into a program.

I've been told that chem is more important than bio but bio is usually a pre-req for A&P...My advice would be to look at all possible schools you might go to and see what they require...It's frustrating because they are all so different.

Good luck!

I have a full time job working 3 overnights and 10 flexible daytime hours. I also have a 10 year old and 7 year old twins. I am trying to do 4 classes this semester because they are online and easier classes. Hoping if I do that when I have A&P I can only take that class and possibly one other. Would like all the General Ed classes done before I enter nursing program so I don't have too much of a workload in program. Even without general ed it looks like 9-11 credits per semester of nursing.

Thanks for the encouragement!!! Its so frustrating wishing you could just go back in time and do things differently.

It's good to know I'm not the only one who's in their late 20's, which by the way I STILL can not believe. I still feel like I'm 25. It's so strange how once you turn 25 the years just fly passed. I don't even know how I'm 28 already lol!

I've been researching the school programs and you're right they are all different. Super annoying! I guess i should talk to someone at the CC here and see what they recommend. Most of them require Eng composition and Bio right?
