  1. Hello, I have been searching everywhere for info on this but it seems everything I find is from 10 years ago. I am not a nurse, however I am graduating from Miami in 3 weeks and will be a registered respiratory therapist. I am dying to get out of Miami, as my family lives in Tampa. Does anyone have any info on which hospitals are best to work for in Tampa and Orlando, and if one city would be best over the other in work environment, pay, management etc. Here I have come to notice all of the hospitals have different protocols as far as the responsibilities of the RT's. Some of them do everything including intubating and placing A-lines, and other hospitals have their RTs doing practically nothing with the nurses doing most of their work. I would prefer to find the hospital that allows us more responsiblity and more work load, as I cant stand being bored. I'm not sure how to go about finding this sort of information, unless I am lucky enough to know people working in each hospital. Would anyone be able to steer me in the right direction of some good hospitals in both cities? Do you think me being a new grad and relocating will affect me? Any information would be greatly appreciated!
  2. HI everyone. I'm not sure if anyone is still posting on this thread, but I just wanted to know if someone could tell me about seminole state. I am in Miami and have applied to the Respiratory Care program there. It's really the only other program in this state that I will have a good chance of getting accepted into for the August program since I have my requirements met for them. I will probably be getting into Miami Dade program, and hopefully the one there at Semiole. But I have no idea about the program, or the school. Does it have a good rep for being a good school with good teachers, good programs, good career placement, good clinical sites etc. ? It's hard to find information regarding these thigns when you don't live in the city. I'm going to be going up to Orlando at the end of May and hope to check it out. My program is at the Almonte Springs campus. If anyone can tell me anything about the school, that would be great. Thanks! Oh and I will need to find a place and probably a roommate if anyone knows anyone!! haha!
  3. Hey, I was actually going to ask about this school. I'm in Miami now, but I applied to Seminole state(for the Respiratory care program). I don't know anything about the school, other than I have everything I need to be accepted this August! Which is why I applied! haha. Do you know its rep? Is it a good school? Good teachers? Good programs? What about clinical sites? Do they offer a lot? I'm hoping to work in a Childrens Hospital. Not sure if there are many aroudn there, unless they have sites in Orlando area. I'm submitting my app today for the program.
  4. Thanks for your reply. I just want to know that this school is worth the 28,000$ a year. That is A LOT compared to any other school I've looked into. I was going to apply to DCCC this year, but I am still in Miami and apparently have to take some crazy test called the HOBET. ? I've never heard of it and I don't know why it's required. So I am out for August's program. I can apply next year but I really don't want to wait another year. Apparently GMC's only requirement is that I have chemistry done. I have about 7 pre-requisites done, so I'm assuming I will have no issue getting in, however, I have heard that this school has a tendency not to transfer credits. I can't find any reviews on the school itself, or the teachers, staff, education etc. I would hate to go into something this expensive completely blind.
  5. Hi, I have been going nuts trying to find more info on gywennd mercy college but I can't seem to find anything. I was going to go into nursing but I have just switched it to Respiratory. There is a program at both delaware community college and GMC. I live in Miami right now and am moving up there so I can't go into the schools to check them out. Can someone tell me why GMC is 30k a year??? That is insane! The entire program at DCCC is less than 15k. Is this some sort of elite school? Can anyone tell me any differences or which one has better ratings. If anyone has any personal experience that would be great as well. The thing is, I will be missing a math prereq for DCCC but I'm fine with GMC which is why I'm considering that school over DCCC. I don't want to have to wait another year to get into the program. Also, as far as clinical sites, are they already chosen, or do we have to find them on our own? I think both schools use the same locations right? I would love to do something at CHOP because that's where I would love to end up working, but I'm not sure how it works as far as being able to do clinicals there. Any information would be SO helpful! Thanks!
  6. Thanks foe the reply! They take the train from north Miami to where? I didn't even know there was a train ! Ha! Oh man. This might actually work if I could get more info. I was looking into programs pretty far north anyway BC I'm DESPERATE to take the EMT course ASAP and all the classes around me are already full !!
  7. Man everything is so far from me. There really is nothing except Miami Dade college. How hard would it be to work as a paramedic while going to NS?
  8. Wait what?? MDC no longer has the Baptist Scholar program???? It's still on their website. I'm confused
  9. Oh thanks!!! Ok will do. That makes me feel better! haha Good to know! I'm going to go look it up now and see what's there. Thanks
  10. Yes I know..the decision is killing me because of that exact thing. The reasons for going to Philly are solely personal(no family in Miami, not that much help with my son, struggling with jobs/income). My family thinks it would be easier for me to attend school there than here bc they would be of more help with babysitting my son than what I have here now. That's the ONLY reason I'd move there. But then again, it's a very difficult decision given the job market/debt I'll be in there vs. here. So I'm having a hard time deciding which is best for me. I don't think I'd ever move to philly if it wasn't for my family being there. I've heard how hard NS can be so I want to make sure I have a good support system around me. The last thing I want is to have a ton of problems making it hard for me to get the grades! I've heard Medics in the Philly area make decent money but I was concerned about the shift's they work. I wasn't sure if it was 12's or 24's they work. And how many per week. Obviously with a child it would be difficult unless they work with your schedule and are understanding of family needs. I've heard Hospitals are the last place to go to if you have issue's with scheduling. Thanks so much for the info =)
  11. Oh ok I'll have to look it up. I don't know where much is lol. We're looking for a nice house though somewhere family oriented so if you hear or see anything let me know! My sister is in the process of selling her condo so we're going to rent a house as soon as it sells.(if it ever does!) Do you know of any books I can order or get at some sort of book store to help me prepare for the TEAS? Even if I cant take it til next year I want to be prepared.
  12. It says on their site that the program takes around 3 years to complete and that's NOT the BSN program, and that's after all the prereqs are done to even enter the program?? So how long will the bachelors be? Still 4 years? If it takes over 3 years for the ADN AFTER prereqs and only 4 as a BSN, that's crazy!! Most ADN programs that are over 3 years are so bc they include the prereqs, but aria's doesnt. I wonder why it's still so long as just an ADN program? Hmm
  13. nevermind!! i found it! lol
