Hello. Im in Essex County and would LOVE to go to nursing school. I have no clue where Id start or how to start. I dont even know if Id be going for RN, LPN? If I got to pick Id love to be a L&D nurse, but I really just want to be a nurse.

Hi,
There are a lot of schools for nursing in Essex County. If you want your BSN, research Bloomfield College, Rutgers University, Kean University. Or you could get your RN from Essex County College. ECC also has an LPN program. I would suggest RN and BSN for L&D nursing. I am not a nurse yet, I am waiting on admissions to school for the fall semester, but I've done a bit of research to determine what is best for me.

The NJ BON (that's Board of Nursing, welcome to acronym land) has a lot of information on its website, http://www.state.nj.us/lps/ca/medical/nursing.htm. About 1/2 way down you'll find lists of schools by type.
As for RN vs LPN, with all due respect to LPNs, getting your RN will provide more opportunities and more money.
Good luck.
HI and thanks so much for the info! Now, what is a BSN? Also what is the diff between an RN, LPN, and BSN? I'd LOVE to work in L&D...Im also interested in the ER but also being a nurse at a Dr office. But L&D and ER would be my first two choices. Id love to do that.
Also, Im a bit lost. I was checking out the site and not sure what Im looking for. I graduated HS, but didnt go to college. I didnt do too great in HS either, is there still a chance I can do this?

Ok, since you did not go to college and you say that you did not do well in HS, the first step that I think you should take is enrolling in your local Community college. Start taking your core courses, such as English 1 & 2, Anatomy and Physiology 1 & 2, psycology, socialogy, microbiology & chemistry. Those are the clasess that almost every nursing program that I have looked at requires for your associates or dipolma in nursing. Do well in the classes and then start to apply to nursing schools. Your going to have to research the schools. Use this site too...on the New Jersey boards..there are a lot of people asking about differnt schools..look up some of their websites and research where they are and if they would be a good match for you.
Thanks so much!!!
So now, do I just go to my community college and ask about the courses you mentioned? And the ones your mentioned are all I need?
Also, I never took my SATs. Does that matter?

:pumpiron: it does not matter about your SAT but they might want you to take a entrance exam to see where you are. i went to RN school but didnt finish i am now in lpn school and i love it i am happy that i am doing lpn first and wished i would of done it from the beginning. i took all of the classes mentioned and they are very hard well only the science ones but o did it with no ,life just studying so if you are serious about this carreer then be prepared to work and study hard. good luck

Im doing the LPN program right now, and Im thinking in the future if I should continue to RN or not. Too much schooling you know.
it is entirely up to you about continuing on for your RN or not not everyone goes all the way. o know that it is alot of schooling but their LPN to RN transition programs. that r shorter in length. good luck and welco:welcome: me
Whats the diff between an LPN and RN? You start off with being an LPN?
