I was up until 1 AM studying for a test last night! And this is just my first semester. I just started crying. I know it will all pay off in the long run, but I just wondering how long you've all stayed up to study. Thanks.
I routinely pulled allnighters in high school, and stayed up well over 40 straight more than once working on my first degree. I always made good grades, but I also had to make sure I had the time to go out with my friends - hence putting off studying until the last couple days. I stay up late normally - usually go to bed around 1 by choice - but I no longer cram for exams. I'm a little older and I need my sleep. I start studying at least a week in advance, and by the night before all I have to do is review and try to go to bed a little early. Then I get up about 1.5 hours early the next morning and go out to breakfast and look through my material once more - I test better on a full stomach with some coffee in me, and even though I already know my stuff, it gets my confidence up. I HATE mornings, but I make fewer dumb mistakes on exams if I've had time to wake up first. If 1 am is late for you, maybe try my way? Oh, I don't start NS for another week and a half, so I'm just talking prereqs here.
I tend to study after the kids are in bed so I usually don't get started until 8 or 9 pm but I plan my studying so I study a couple hrs each night. I do not stay up all night. The latest I'll stay up studying test material is probabaly 12am or 1am. I have stayed up til probably 2am for clinicals but that is because I cant' do it ahead of time. I will not do an all nighter. I think that if you plan well and study as you go there is no need to stay up all night for tests or clinical. Our clinical instructor pretty much told us we better not be staying up all night or we are doing something wrong. I would be a danger to patients if I did that. And I try to somewhat keep up with reading during the semester and then the week before I will start the reviewing and studying and quizzing myself. There are many people in my class who never stay up late but many who stay up very late. And I wouldn't say those people do any better. They are just more tired. 1am isn't too bad I don't think. Hope you are feeling better!
It seems about once every semester I have to stay up all night and then go to the exam the next day without sleep. Before returning to school, I would have never believed I could do that, earn high scores (usualy high 90's) and function. I have heard from my younger classmates that they think they couldn't do this. Interesting. Who wants the higher GPA?
This sort of thing is hard to recover from, though. You've got to get sleep that next night or it's a bad, bad thing.
Hi all, I have one semester to go:rotfl: I study the day before any test/exam but never the night before, I find my brain will not rest, get up early and a quick read before the said torture test, seems to work for me, if I stay up to late i feel sick in the am and cant concentrate anyway, and i never seem to sleep well before clinicals, even though i love the clinical part of my program.
For care plans and stuff 3:00 A.M. Before a test, midnight is my cutoff. I find that evrytime I stay up later than that, I score bad. Last time I tried to stay up late to study, I scored 10 points lower than my usual test scores.
I like to put the kiddies to bed.. flip thru some notes and go to bed at a decent time (9-930) I get up at about 330-4 or so and let the rest and peacefulness work to my advantage... I am too tired at night and it doesnt stick! ~Ivanna Ps hang inthere... it is a lifestyle change for sure, but you will figure out how to make it work!
There were a few times here and there where I would stay up all night. I do remember one time though during a really busy week my friend and I stayed up for 48 hours straight to study. We both passed! Although such last minute studying does not help to keep information in the long term memory. I have had to go back and look at the same information again after the test.

Personally for me... I work better at night. Some say to come home right after class and study, I can't do that I need a break. But I am "nocturnal" and like to be up when the rest of the world is sleeping to me there is something calming about that for me.
Plus Starbucks is always there when I wake up in the morning and I am set...plus I have always had the motto " I can sleep when I am dead" but that isn't always good either. I guess I am weird.
P.S. Cute new smilies. That is always fun. :smiletea2:
