Hey there,

Can't help you with your question cause I'm in the same boat as you...we'll all get through it together. Brace yourself...cause I am but I'm sure it'll all be worth it. God I hope so:bluecry1:

I heard this class is smaller than usual, so are we all in the same class then?

IDK but I was wondering since the schedule only shows one day for each of the classes we all need the first semester...????

Winter section is all in the same class. I got in last winter we had about 50-55 students in our class. My advice...get as much sleep as you can because you won't always get the chance (especially if you are a night person with morning clinicals), make sure you work at keeping your relationships with your loved ones strong (they told us 1st day that there is a very high divorce rate among nursing students it'd be best not to have to deal with the stresses of nursing school and a failing relationship...while I am not married I would still be extremely devastated if my boyfriend and I would split), take vitamins to keep up your health, even if you have no time at all...take at least a few hours to yourself to watch tv or take yoga or just relax....you work better when your less stressed. Ha another hint they told us first day....start birth control now....you don't want to be 8 and 1/2 months pregnant in nursing school hopeing that you don't pop on a certain day that would make you miss to many days of clinical (there were a few people who had to worry about this...and still have to) And of course all the bs they tell you...don't work...if you can possibley not. I work 2 days...I can pay my bills mostly on that. I use loan money to supplement. Yes people who work full time can still pass....its just a h*ll of a lot harder to do so...add kids even worst. Just basicly take away as much stressors as possible (obviously get rid of your job rather than your kids ha) before the program. And last but not least....just breath.

You will have in total 2 days of class 2 days of lab. Some weeks you will be lucky and have only 1 day of lab 1st semester only. Plan to be there all 4 days. Plan to have them change the times or increase the time last minute...they don't care if you have to work ;-)

:yeahthat:

Keep in mind that winter section does not get a REAL break until the end of the year. Try your best not to get burnt out and set aside time to relax. For those who have to work, my best advise is a power nap a couple of days a week to recharge. Trust me, it works

oguesswhat-

The birth control suggestion:chuckle:chuckle:chuckle!!!!

Ha you don't remember them saying that 1st day? That's about the only comment I remember them saying to us besides the divorce thing. I thought it was hilarious! Ha I have the girl that's due on Valentine day in my clinical I can't even imagine!

My advice.

1. It is as hard as they say it will be.

2. When faced with a new lab assignment - it's not as hard as it seems it's going to be. Don't panic.

3. Never get behind on the reading and you'll be just fine.

4. Go in with good study skills and then stick to them.

5. While not necessary, find a person you click with and swap phone numbers. It's great to have someone to call to clarify things. Better yet if you find a little study group or can meet up with a group one day prior to the test.

6. Buy extra black ink and paper for your printer. You will need it to print out the powerpoints.

7. Find a motto or inspirational saying to reflect on for days that you're overwhelmed, stressed and want to quit. Once you get your first real patients you'll never want to quit again. It's amazing.

8. Don't forget to have some down time to regain your sanity.

HFCC is a terrific school. I wish you the best of luck and hope you have fun.

Ohh...plus...you may hate it 1st semester. That sounds horrible. But you may not get a teacher first semester for clinicals that you click with. I HATED nursing school first semester and I dreaded going to clinical each day. But I stuck with it basically cause I didn't know what else to do. You know what...it wasn't clinicals that I hated it was having to deal with the the instructor. Every other clinical since then I don't mind and I actually like going...now the only thing I HATE about clinicals is getting up at 5am ha. Just understand why you don't like nursing school if you do really decide to hate it (I have known others to hate it for one reason or another) If its the teacher don't quit because of them. You will be rid of them soon enough!

Hey thanks for the advice every1. I find alot of times people go into something with the mind state that its way too hard etc.. and have no confidence. If you already think your gonna do poor..you probably are. Ok its probably very hard but its not something that cant be done..anything can be done, with the proper preparation.
