Hey, I'm New Here!

Published

Hey everyone! My name is Angie and I am a Patient care technician and I am trying to decide between nursing or medical assisting? I have a year left in the LPN program but am now considering Medical assisting because no one around here is hiring LPN's anymore, except in long term care facilities. I want to work in an OB office either way I go. The hospital I work at stopped hiring LPN's this year and now I do most of their duties, except insert foley's and tube feedings. I have 2 small kids ages 1 and 2 and the R.N. program is just more than I can handle right now, that is my goal though to do that program when they are alittle older. I am just introducing myself and if anyone has some insight on medical assisting vs. nursing I would appriciate any comments. The LPN program is a diploma program and the Medical assisting program is an associate degree program. Most of the CMA classes are required for the R.N. program I plan to attend in a few years. Well hope to hear from someone soon! Thanks!

I completed a Medical Assistant program nearly 6 years ago and was unable to find a job that paid more than $8 per hour. I made $15 per hour as a factory worker and ended up earning twice as much as the average MA. In my situation, taking the MA program was a mistake.

I completed LVN school recently, passed my state boards, and quickly landed a job in a nursing home that pays $18 hourly. The LVN program was the right choice for me, and I can take an LVN-to-RN bridge program anytime to earn my RN license.

welcome to allnurses.com! you will find alotta support here, no matter what you choose......
