Tina, your settling in period sounds like it has been well managed so far by your hospital, which will be a relief to hear for all us nurses who may be travelling to the USA in the next few months.

hello friends
well, here i am, on the us side now. i've been here 7 weeks but only just got internet access. first of all.....suzanne, sorry i didn't call, i lost your phone number :smackingf but i remain eternally grateful to you for helping me get here, am i forgiven? :bowingpur
quick update then i'll go catch up with everything that's been happening on here.........got my ssn and green card 4 weeks after arrival and started work right away. the hospital where i'm working has an excellent orientation program, it's called a 'transcultural assimillation program' especially for international or foreign-educated nurses and we are the first group to take part in it. there's just 4 of us, another english nurse, a phillipino nurse, a german nurse, and me. the first 3 weeks have been classroom based and we go to the floor next week. i really can't fault the orientation, my initial worry was that i'd be thrown in at the deep end and be expected to get on with it, but they are making sure we are all comfortable and well supported.
off to read some threads now. oh and clair (english_nurse)......yes, i passed my driving test :chuckle
