I have nursed in the USA and contemplating on going again. Would love to touch basis with any Aussies who are currently working in the USA at the moment, or who has recently worked there?

Drop a line when time permits?

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks Brissygal:bow:

hi brissygal! I am also a brissygal wanting to live and work in Madison WI. Would love any advise you might be able to give me from having 'been there done that' already! I am hoping to get an E3 visa and am looking for a hospital in WI that requires their nurses to have a BSN.

Cheers!

Hi Zonnenschijn,

You are on the right track with the E3 visa. However first thing is first. Have you passed NCLEX? If not then you need to apply most likely to an International Nursing Agency - several to look at like Geneva Health, My assignment America, avant healthcare professionals are also sending nurses on an E-3 visa. You have to have a BSN anyway to go the USA. When are you planning on going to the USA? Most hospitals don't know what the E-3 visa is - although it is cheaper for them than the green card status. You know that there is a hold on the Green Cards at the moment - back logs. The E-3 is the ticket - a sure thing!

Happy to help you in way I can. Keep me posted!

I am a New Zealand-trained RN but I was working in Australia for 4 years before I came to the US. Although my Visa status is different because I am married to a US citizen, I can comment on the NCLEX issue. I never once used an agency, I studied using Saunders and I went through the whole process on my own very successfully.

If you need any other information I'd be happy to share.

Hi Djuna,

That is helpful information - good to know! However, don't you think having married a yank (mind the pun) made it easier for you.

When applying for licensure it would have made no difference at all, it would have only been easier getting GC as a spouse

I appreciate what you are saying Silverdragon102, I have the license down packed. Getting the Green Card - is the golden ticket!

Hi Everyone..I thought i would post a reply to this thread, as I am an Aussie RN working in the USA. I am doing my first travel assignment in Alaska :-) I went through the process of sitting the NCLEX just this year. My husband is american and I do have my greencard. I must say, the process of trying to sit for the NCLEX exam was frustrating...I applied to the BON here (while I was living here) took nearly a year as i did not have enough hours in a couple of subjects, in which i had to redo! I went back home and did this through Deakin Uni. After this was all done it was smooth sailing.I work in theatres, and its quite different to how things work back home. Anyway anyone can msg me if they want to know more info. By the way, Brissygal? did you work at the Wesley or St. Andrews? I worked at the Wes, until mid may of this year! :-)

Hi and thanks so much for all the info!! I am awaiting approval from the Board of Nursing to sit the NCLEX. Have got all the textbooks ready to start studying! Pretty sure i can do it on my own without the help of an agency (fingers crossed). Have made contact with a nurse recruiter at the UW Hospital in Madison and they do have positions requiring a BSN. I take it my Bachelor of Nursing Degree (3 years) is the same or equivalent to a BSN? What does BSN actually stand for? I want to go to the states ASAP. I am going in January for another holiday for 5 weeks and will set up some meetings with potential employers and let them know all about the E3 visa.

Thanks again! :nurse:
