Hi,
I took the hesi exit for the third time in Sept and failed with a 816 and I'm currently studying to for the fourth test Dec 18. My school is currently paying for us to do kaplan online which gives us access to the qbank. A friend of mine took kaplan and passed the third time with it. She said the kaplan decision tree and lots of prayer helped her. I'm excited about taking the test again with this new found knowledge and can't wait to share my testimony. I reccomend that you check into the Hurst Review, which is good in helping you get the concepts of every system, my friend said the hurst videos really helped her also. Kaplan is expensive but since I've been using it, it is worth the money. If your unable to get kaplan right away get a saunders book and read and do the questions after each chapter. The key is being consistent when doing your questions and learning from the rationalle even if it's right. Looking back when I was studying for the third exam, I was not consistent everyday and that could have made a big difference in the 84 points I needed to pass. Hang in there Nurse!!! remember your day of victory is coming soon. Continue to pray and have faith for God will see you through!! I can't wait to hear your victory story!!!!
thank you, ziggles.
i am taking kaplan now and my kaplan teacher said nclex board exam is a little bit different from hesi. but i think if you keep practice more questions with kaplan strategies, you will pass. thanks for your reply. i'd like to talk to you via personal email if it is possible. please let me know
mod note, please do not post email addresses as per terms of service
I believe you have to have 15 posts and then you can send a pm. I look forward to hearing from you!! Have a fabulous day!!
OK. then I will try to post 15 posts to be able to talk directly to you:-). Any way, you might have known that you can go to evolve to read your remediation. After you take the test, evolve sends you the content of what you have selected wrong answers in your tests. Did you buy hesi practice questions online from evolve and case studies? That is what we do. I did not prepare enough for the first test and were too nervous. I lost time on the second test, the second test seemed easier that the first one. Now, I have to take the third one. No more confidence...How about you?
Sorry I'm so late responding back. I didn't realize evolve could give us a remediation just based on what we got wrong on the test, that's great to know. I need to run this by our instructor being that they must give special permission (so ridiculous). I have been asking forever if the school can give an access code so my classmates and I can order the practice tests and they seem to drag their feet on this matter, it's so frustrating. I know you may be discouraged and that is exactly how I felt the this third time, I even managed to shed some tears. However, I realized that I must keep going and I'm to close to the finish line to call it quits. We can do this the world is in dire need of great nurses like us, we gotta give it all we got and more. So don't be discouraged for joy comes in the morning and these trials will not last for long. I look forward to talking to you soon nurse!!
I just read your old post again and realized you will take the test on the 18th of Dec. Good luck to you Ziggles. i will call you Nurse! soon!
Thank you so much!!! I appreciate that! your post just made my day!!
So, I passed the Hesi exit.
Some of you or some of people I know did not ( or don't) have have to do this but I would like to share my experience with those who are struggling with the Hesi exit like I did and espeicially English is their second language.
First of all, you know how it feels when you fail the test. So, first of all I wanted to say is that I passed, so every one else will pass!.
My recommendation is that you should know the content first. Study the Hesi book and Saunders for content. For Saunders, even though many people said it is easy the questions in this book are related to the basic content that you should know. Go over each chapter, especially the fundamental skills, positioning, tube feeding, chest tube, walking canes, crutches...I found many questions of these in the Hesi test. Hesi likes to ask specific questions like Kegels, diaphram breathing, breathing technique and lab values and what a specific lab indicates for ect... So, i learned this in the Saunders book.
Another book I studied was Lippincott. This book has 5200 questions with comprehensive rationales. This book helped me pass the test! I found that reading the rationales of every question in the book was very helpful.
I recommend that you should register an account with evolve. So, if you fail the test first time, Hesi will send you a report with remediation. Review the report and find out what area you should improve, then study the area you need to improve from the Lippincott book. Do 100 questions at least in one sitting and then review carefully every single thing you dont know, take notes. Keep doing this for 2 weeks. You will pass. No mysteries!
I hope this helps.

The key to passing HESI and NCLEX the first time is to use the NCLEX books throughout school, don't wait until the final few weeks of the last semester.
Practicing NCLEX questions from Saunders and the other NCLEX guides will help you score better grades on class exams as well.
If you don't have an NCLEX review book now, get one and start doing a few hundred questions a week. Be sure to review the rationales for every question.
