I was a B/C student in school B=90 and ( mostly)C no less than 80%
All Hesi exams I failed 600's EXCEPT the exit exam 720 first try 880 second try - I PASSED it!!!!!!
On 7/7/07 I took the free Kaplan test- I scored below average mostly 55% www.kaptest.com (free events) they offer the test for FREE)
I took the Kaplan CD I scored 63% 8/4/07- I improved they say you are good - if you score 65% or better.
How did I pass the HESI? I reviewed the entire 7/1-8/1Miller CD video review and right after did questions based on that content only, did meds pub, evolve (hesi) online, Hesi CD and book about total of 3000 questions for 1.5 months- No TV, movies, nothing but NURSING, I even purchased a NCLEX audio review that I listened to while driving, taking a bath, cooking etc.
Most important advice on the test I went with my gut! I took my TIME. I breathed I relaxed. I slept the night before, I took the test at 11am I ate lunch high in protein, snacks cheese, granola, and some water.
Preparation -I did this 5-6 hrs per day everyday took a day off when I felt it was too much.
So they say I am ready for NCLEX? Do I feel ready? not quite and I didn't feel ready when I passed the HESI either.
I felt like that HESI was was hard- felt that I didn't know whether I passed or failed.
My plan now is Kaplan on-line review 8/6-9/1
Davis NCLEX RN Success and Saunders
additional 3000 -4000questions
Plan to take NCLEX first week in September 2007.
I faild the hesi for the second time. I was so close the first time and the second time not so good. And to make it all worse my husband said that I should just give it up because with not passing the first two times I won't pass it the third time. What help that does.
I did look at what other's have said and I thought the test was simple and it came down to two choices and I obviously picked the wrong answers. I just need help and support.
I used the Hurst DVD review. It costs like 275 dollars but helped with my Hesi and Nclex exams. She brakes everything down really simple and some things she talks about are the very questions on the hesi. I listened to the dvd's until I could quote them and it was great for me. hope that helps.
I thought the test taking strategies in the HESI case studies were really helpful. They really help you focus in on the question and figure out what the question is really asking. Doing the case studies helped a lot too. I don't know if your school makes you do them but my school made us do it. I thought that was the best.
I also read the whole HESI book and did lots of NCLEX questions from 3500 and 4000. Also did Saunders questions. But anything I didn't really understand, I looked up in my nursing books and read about the topic. Also, I find it helpful when doing nclex questions to look at the rationales (in review mode) right after you answer the question. It keeps the topic fresh in your mind. Did 75 Q's per day until the week before the test and I started doing mock tests 160 Q per day. Then the day before, I didn't do anything.
Hope this helps you.
I failed the HESI the first time but passed the second. I had studied so hard for the first test and could not believe that I failed. So for the second time around I did the HESI case studies and went in and passed the test even with the computer shutting me out and having to reboot a couple of times.
Kindhearted
