:angryfireI took the Hesi again and I failed. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I thought the test was easy but I not. I've studied and studied! What am iI doing wrong? Does any one have tips on how to pass this exam.
I took HESI exit today and scored 1096. I did about 150 to 200 question a day, but throughout the program I studied saunders nclex, ATI (which my school uses for a exit after each class and HESI nursing school exit) review and rationales series, straight As series books for each class, did all the Hesi cd questions except pharm( didn't have time) and all the hesi question on the evlove website. We need 900 to pass.
1. Do lots of questions from various sources. My favorite is NCLEX 4000. Do LOTS of questions.
2. The night before, re-read the "HESI Tip" boxes in the HESI book.
3. Remember two important focuses are: (1) Patient safety; and (2) Gather more information. I was surprised at how many questions there were where the correct answer had to do with gathering more information/data. But on second thought, I realized I can't make a plan until I have enough information, so that kind of question makes more sense now. Related to patient safety, always, always pick the answer that will promote patient safety. One question in particular on my HESI almost made me laugh out loud (I can't say what it was, or I may get in trouble for copyright violation!). But yep, the answer was the one that seemed funny/odd yet kept patients safe.
4. Don't second-guess yourself. Go with your gut. Don't change answers unless you are SURE you clicked on the wrong one.
5. If you start thinking, "What if..." STOP. That line of thinking will only get you in trouble. Just go with the information you are given.
6. Take your time with the med. calc. questions. They are an easy way to boost your overall score. But remember not to round numbers too soon! One problem on my HESI required rounding, but if you rounded too soon, you got the wrong answer.
7. Don't stress about any question that you have no clue about. Just give it your best guess and move on. There are 159 other questions you probably do know the answer to. :)
Hey you guys. I have been subscribed to this thread for a while but i can finally say, I passed HESI #3. I got 780, 752, then finally 947! Since #3 was our last chance, I really studied my butt off. Lost a lot of friends, teammates, relationship with my dad and sister, my income, built debt and got the IRS looking for me. But i was determined to pass because if I didnt, I wouldnt have been able to get back to a program.
I did > 300 questions a day. 150 as soon as I woke up and did the rationales. then 100 at night after dinner. the rest I did in between while i was just reviewing notes and study material.
I recommend using Saunders since they are also from Elsevier just like HESI. But honestly, I've never done so many questions before until I failed the second time. So do questions and review and understand rationales. I was scoring >65's on saunders. Good Luck all! its a great feeling to finally know I have graduated from nursing school but now on to NCLEX.
honestly with the hesi it doesn't matter how much of the core material you know or how much you study. the key to passing hesi is getting used the question style. hesi is all about test taking. when you practice questions... try to pick the question apart. look for key words that would link to the answer.. use process of elimination. that helped me a lot. Get all the math questions correct.. Know how and when a nurse is allowed to delegate care to lpn and UAP.. Therapeutic communication was also big on hesi too. and most importantly DO NOT CHANGE YOUR ANSWER..

Honestly, the Evolve Exit Exam is really a test of luck.
I studied hours and hours for the exam - did all the case studies/practice tests and studied from two different Hesi books.
I took the exam 3 times because our school required it and after the third exam I still did not make the required score. Thankfully, my school allowed us to graduate and we don't have to take this exam again.
My advice really is to try your best and pray!!!
**Also every exit exam has different versions so whatever your remediation tells you your weak in; chances are you will improve that area but the area you once scored high in will probably be low. It's really strange how that works**
