Hesi Exit Exam Help!

Published

:angryfireI took the Hesi again and I failed. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I thought the test was easy but I not. I've studied and studied! What am iI doing wrong? Does any one have tips on how to pass this exam.

Yes, I took the Hesi about a month ago and passed the NCLEX about 2 weeks ago. (the NCLEX is easier than the HESI). That Hurst review really was great for the HESI....I would recommend it. That is what I continued to study for the nclex as well.:nurse:

I took my exit exam and failed I was a llittle disgusted with the whole experience there I was trying my hardest to pass and all around me was CHEATERS! :crying2:i'm not mad just know this is what it comes to for most students to pass:uhoh3: Any suggestions to pass this test? Hands down i give them props well played:yeah:

The hesi book. Especially the tips boxes. Also, don't read too much into the question. I find a lot of people who failed are the ones who over-studied. Just read the question as what it is...and using hesi test strategies, figure out what answer they want you to choose. Many people bring in too much extraneous information with "what ifs?".

CC918, what are the HESI strategy tips you (and everyone else) are talking about? are they found in the hesi comprehensive review book?

there are no tips the hesi book is useless. the hesi exit exam given is not actually from the hesi itself.

I completed almost all the HESI case studies on the evolve website which helped me to understand how to read the questions (which I thought were sometimes too compicated) but I think what helped me much more was NCLEX 3500 and practice tests questions from nclex study guides I bought from borders and amazon.com. The best thing in my opinion is to read the rationale for both the right and wrong answers. That was my focus and I passed the HESI and NCLEX on the first attempt. Good Luck!

I also failed the Hesi the first time. I take it again next Wednesday and am scared out of my mind. We have to make a 900 to pass. I made an 856 the first time. We have 63 students in our class and only about 15 passed on the first try. We had the Kaplan review this week but we have our critical care final Monday, a Leadership and management test Tuesday and a senario test Thursday. Oh and my husband of course is going out of town for work next week and so I will have the boys by myself and won't be able to do anything until they are in bed  We have one more chance after this to pass or we can't graduate with our class. I have been reading the Hesi book all week and we did a bazillion questions in the Kaplan review. I don't know what else I can do with having to study for 2 more tests and this in the same week. Good luck to everyone though!!!

Hey,

I am in my last semester of school and I too have to take the HESI exit. At my school we do HESI every semester sometime twice... I have always passed with a very good score...MY secret...do the HESI questions on the CD and review the HESI book. It is an excellent review....just know that the questions on the CD are harder than the actual HESI. Again do the questions on the CD I am am sure you will pass!!

Good luck

CoCo :)

I just took my exit HESI today for the first time and got a 995, which was a 92.19%. Here are a few tips...

For those of you who don't have very good reading comprehension like me, going through the HESI review book is a total waste of time. I tried that for one of my subject HESIs, and I found it completely useless for me. Here is what I did to prepare for the exit HESI:

all online Evolve RN Complete case studies twice

all subject practice tests and quizzes on the Evolve RN Complete case studies website

all comprehensive practice tests (3) and quizzes on the Evolve RN Complete case studies website

all subject and comprehensive practice tests (1) on the Evolve Study Guide CD

For me, the case studies were very useful in helping me learn what the question writers wanted in the answers. Some of my classmates said that they did not find them useful. The practice tests and quizzes definitely had many of the similar questions to the real HESI. Also and perhaps most importantly, taking practice test after practice test helped me with critical thinking and knowing what the HESI focused on as most important.

Other tips that seem dumb but I think really helped me...I did not study the day before at all. I had a clinical and then relaxed a little in the evening and went to bed at 9:00. I woke up at 5:00 the next day feeling well rested. In the morning, I read rationales to the questions I had missed on the three comprehensive exams on the case study website. I also did 10 practice questions just to get into thinking mode. I then went running - I highly recommend taking 30 minutes to do whatever you need to relax and destress - ate breakfast (include some protein), and left for school in plenty of time so that I did not have to worry about the traffic. Being calm is really important during this test - do whatever you are able to minimize your stress level! Take coffee, water, whatever will make you more comfortable.

Hope this information is helpful. Good luck to everyone - I know how stressful the exit HESI can be!

I forgot to mention that the practice quizzes, tests, and case studies on the Evolve RN case study website as well as the tests on the HESI review book CD are MUCH harder than the real test! I was making in the 60th and 70th percentile on the practice tests, and my real exit HESI score was much higher.

thanks so much. i took the hesi last week and got an 810 i needed 900 to pass.:sniff: so i'm going to use these tips to do better on the next one.

ok i have started the judith miller dvd. it addicting this will help u answer questions u r not sure of. i listen to her on my way to work walking from the car before i go to sleep. love it, people i talk to say this really helps with passing the nclex as well
