Good Luck to all,

I'll be retesting in October. I also apply at UT but, for the Fall of 2011.

Hi, Onmyway83

How did you do on the Hesi?

Thanks, I already had that website but, i do not recall seeing any of them on the Hesi maybe 5 out of 15 or 30. I really can't remember, I was too overwhelm from studying.

Precise,

Thanks for the luck and what part do you have to retake again.

Well, i failed the vocabulary part. But, prometric told me i had to pay another $90.00, so might as will take all 8 sections over again.

i was thinking about applying for Fall 2010, actually it was my original plan, but then i figured i only had a little bit of credits left to do, so i would try my luck at spring... :)

Trishajlee, that's great!! I hope the best for you. If you end up getting in and your intern is at Ben Taub, I'll hope to see you.

I planned for the Fall because I still need a little time to get some more credits and need a little time off for my kids, just in case i become too occupy with nursing homework.

I thought the critical thinking was pretty hard too. I didn't think it was common sense - it was triage type questions like who would you treat first out of these types of patients, or what would you check first if a patient presented with this specific condition. Stuff that I would expect to learn in nursing school.

Also, they say that all the answers are correct answers, but depending on the one you choose, demonstrates your level of critical thinking. So I thought that made it more difficult.

Exactly. That's how they (all of these preadmission tests) build bias into the tests in favor of those applicants who already have some health care experience or at least better-than-average exposure to the occupation, say have a parent or close relative or spouse already in the profession. I also saw that same thing: The reading comp and vocabulary and such on the HESI were predominantly healthcare stories. On the LPN TABE test I took, I was answering questions straight out of microbiology about communicable diseases, symptoms, and treatments! And LPN only requires a HS diploma or GED education??!!!

OP, that score should be good enough to get accepted. Lots of schools say 75 to be considered, but these days, it's 90s to get in unless there are few applicants -OR- the school fills its class as it gets qualified applicants. If you are not a 90s student, you can help your odds by applying to schools that fill on first-come-first-served basis. Those schools will take the 75 or 80 student, until the class is full. Other schools that put apps in a pool more likely will take the highest and best educated applicants only, then fill the waitlist with lower scores.

I took the HESI at two different schools, because the second required that I take it in person there. I had the computerized version with an online calculator at the first school. I scored very well on it. At the second school, I took a version that was on the school's intranet, and they passed out cheap calculators which students returned at the end of the test. I had 3 hours at each place, not 4. And chemistry was required.

My scores were substantially lower on the test taken on that school's intranet. Their network response time was literally 40 seconds at times, between when I clicked the submit button until when the software advanced to the next question. I strongly feel that "The System" did not record all of my answers. Fwiw, I was accepted by both schools.

Scores:

1) Reading Comprehension: 100 / 83

2) Meaning-Word Use: 100 / 100

3) Conclusions: 100 / 71.4

4) Implications: 100 / 83.33

5) Understanding: 100 / 100

6) Grammar: 96 / 100

7) Vocabulary & General Knowledge: 94 / 94

composite: don't know / 95.1

8) Biology: 92 / 84

9) Chemistry: 89 / 92

10) Anatomy & Physiology: 80 / 88

science composite : 87? / 88.00

11) Math: 96 / 92

Cumulative Score: 92.29 / 91.6 (The group's average was around 75% - 75.5% for each of those tests I took.)

Critical Thinking Score: Didn't get one either time.

You can take the sections in any order, but you have a time limit. You can also stop or pause somehow for a restroom break, but the clock is still running, i.e. 3 hrs ( or 4 if that's what your school allows) is all the time you have .

I have posts on here listing what I studied from. I was taking numerous pre-admissions tests and I used a variety of books to try to brush up on all of it. I have 2 college degrees, but none of my education is life sciences and my last degree, I completed in 1994.

I actually do not have anyone in my family that is in the healthcare, if you really want to become a nurse, you have to think like one. Even though I work at the hospital, I however, do not work with patients.

Sorry, if i upset u.

Hi Everybody! I am new to this website. I took the HESI A2 on June 5 and I applied to UT Health and Science Center at Houston on June 8 for Spring 2011. My Scores on the HESI A2 were the following:

Reading:89

Grammar:92

Vocabulary:84

A&P:84

Math:98

Cumulative Score:89 and Critical Thinking:890

My GPA is:3.88 and My Science GPA:4.00

I hope my HESI scores are high enough to get in. Anyways I was wondering does anyone know how long it takes for your HESI A2 scores to show on the UTLink? I took my HESI exam at the 290 location through UT Health and Science Center-Houston.

Readyeddie,

Did you study strictly from the Hesi study guide?

Hi StayFocus,

Yeah I studied the guide for all portions except for A&P and Critical Thinking. I studied my old A&P Textbook for the A&P portion of the exam. I couldnt really study anything for the Critical Thinking but I guess being an assistant manager for a blood center for 2 years helped me answer some of those Critical Care questions because at times I had to make hard decisions and sometimes I had to prioritize situations.
