HESI A2 Entrance Test

Im taking the Hesi in a couple of days. I wanted to know what type of questions were on the test and what to study for and what helped you for those who passed. Even if you dont go to broward college how was the hesi test for you.

Math

What did you find was the toughest or was common on the test. Fractions, conversion/ metric problems, addition subtraction, multiplication division? Were the fraction problems tough and were there conversion problems based on the metric system like how many millimeters are in an inch

Vocabulary

Did the Evolve book help with vocabulary words and medical terminology. Im studying that and made additional terminology words online.

Anatomy Physiology

What helped you review greatly for test? old notes, Wikipedia or going to various websites

Overall, do you feel it was a tough test or easy or way easy since you reviewed the Evolve book

And, did you feel the HESI test was elementary, middle or high school (simple/ hard)

People in my program found it difficult and a lot of them have been failing the 75% that is required.

For math, I didn't find any of it difficult. There is a computer calculator which works fine and for our exam we were allowed scrap paper. It wasn't anything serious. Conversions weren't all that simple though. Know grams, pints, gallons, things like that. Most were in word problem formation. There were a number of questions that dealt with converting decimals to percents or ratios and vice versa. Also one or two on roman numerals. There were a few words from the study guide but there were some words that weren't in it. Just familiarize yourself with basic vocab. A&P wasn't required but I still had to do the section, it was the first section of my test actually. If I would have studied I probably would have known some of the stuff but I didn't, but I'm sure old notes are fine.

The only parts of the HESI I found a little challenging was the Vocab and the Grammar was a little tricky. For Grammar and Reading Comp you can study some SAT stuff. I did very well on it though, better than I expected.

Search my posts back to early aMarch or late Feb re. HESI, PAX, and TEAS. I listed what I studied from and some of the odder questions. There was no Physics section in either of the HESIs I took.

There was a whole lot of ratios where you had to solve for the unknown. I mean it was on there to excess! If you didn't know how to do that, you'd miss 15 or so questions b/c they kept repeatikng those.

I thought that the A&P was harder on the second test than it was on the first. I took tests at 2 different schools. One was on the evolve/reach website and had easier A&P. The other was on that school's own computer network and had much harder chemistry and A&P. As I understand it, the schools get to customize their test questions to suit them. It's how they weed out applicants.

Verbal & grammar & all that work stuff was just like in the book and on a half dozen online sample tests.

Math, aside from those ratios all over the place and rather a lot of working with fractions, was straightforward math like from a GED Math Review or the HESI book.

from other's posts: check out quizlet.com and type in hesi or hesi a-2 there are lots of flashcards to help out with vocab, grammar, and a&p.

Go to physics4kids.com and in the right-hand margin there's also links to there other sites (i.e. biology4kids, chemistry4kids, etc.). And since these sites are made for young students, the info is put in very plain English. I've found it really helpful in my studying for the TEAS!

Are the math questions in word problems or are they presented to you. For example

Central accepted 50 applicants

South Accepted 40 applicants

How many students did Broward accept that year

or

50 + 40= ___

Also streamline, the mathforkids type of websites really work. Thank you

The HESI is standardized, right? I'm not the smartest person in the world but I'm not the stupidest either...and that test was very very easy. I got an 87.53 without studying. Since I was only applying to one program, they only required that I take the math, vocab, reading comp, chemistry and anatomy/physio sections. I haven't even had chemistry yet and i got a 92 on that section. The math consisted of adding fractions and multipylying them. I'm terrible at math and got an 88 on that. Anatomy was difficult for me but the study guide didn't prepare me for it at all. In fact, I looked through the study guide after I took it and nothing on test was in there other than a few vocab words and some math problems. I wouldn't even bother with it unless you can't add and divide/multiply. Which frankly, if you can't do that by now, you really shouldn't be a nurse.

It was easy. Good luck....not that you need it.

CrazyforBenLinus, don't worry about what the poster said. I haven't really looked at basic since high school, and w/ the help of a calculator...math skills can get rusty. So it's nice to go back and review how to do all that stuff again. The good thing about the HESI is that they have a VERY basic calculator so that helps out loads rather than doing everything in your head. The HESI A2 guide helps out extremely with the math portion, study it page to page. It's all fractions, percents, a couple conversions like 68 oz is how many gallons? My test also had 2 roman numeral questions in there. Know how to set up proportions and solve, and also to set up ratios. Overall I made a 96. It's actually a lot easier than I expected.

Vocabulary - I didn't do as good as I wish I had. The vocab words in the study guide helped just a little. There were a lot of words that I just had to guess, I believe I made an 84% on this section. Expanding vocab can't be done overnight unless you have a set of words that will be on the test...and from my experience, some of the words are on the test...alot aren't. I can't quite remember the words anymore, but I honestly don't think you can prepare for this section.

Anatomy/Phys: This was the hardest section for me. I made a 72% :( I have taken both classes before already...but this was probably 2-3 years ago. Its true that the sections in the book do not prepare you for it at all. A lot of the prep in the book is too general. You need to study out of an actual book. There are more physiology questions than anatomy. I for one, looked over the section in the prep book to jog my memory a little bit...nothing else. So I suggest looking at other sources.

Reading/English: These are pretty easy. Don't rush yourself read everything clearly. The English is pretty easy, like others said you can pretty much read it outloud and recognize that it's wrong. Reading, the passages aren't long like the ACT so thats nice to get your attention easier. It can be tricky if you don't pay attn and just scan. I did not prep for these sections at all. I made a 92/94 on them.

Chem: Easier than I expected, but you still need to go back and review basic chem. I only skimmed an hour before the test...I think I guessed a lot corrrectly. I made an 80% I can't remember much because I took Chem last and I just wanted to be done.

Overall, HESI tests very basic subjects. I made a composite score of 85%, not bad cause I barely studied due to time constraints and my busy schedule. It's not that hard, don't psych yourself out. Get plenty of sleep instead of cramming, most of this stuff should be review. Good luck!

Not really sure why you put others in quotation marks...

But anyway, didn't mean to patronize. I was more trying to reassure you that you would do just fine on the test and not to worry. My intention was not to offend and I'm sorry I have. I shouldn't assume what other's capabilities are. While adding and subtracting fractions may be easy to me, it may be difficult for someone else. Good luck to you and happy studying.

Average was a B but hopefully im not in the red.

AP: book didnt work but still brush up on it for the overall purpose. review the you lab books and understand it. the physiology is important

Vocab: Study those words! helped me a lot.

math: know your your gal, qtz, pints, cups, oz

Reading: read carefully dont rush cuz its easy. some questions had 2 choices could be the answer but just slowly read it over again.

grammer: so many!!!!!!!!!!!!! what is not the correct word or phrase in this sentence. that was my weakness on the test. but i say review those and its/ it is. they're their.

i spent 2 hours on the math. and started crunch time with reading and grammer. i still finished the test on time with 15 minutes left and still had time to do the personality profile. so its possible to complete. just dont dose off, take a break or sidetracking yourself for a long time. u can take a break if your quicker than me. the whole time i prayed and called on God for help!!!!! i made it and for a treat I bought ice cream.:up:

what study guide did you guys study from. I have to take ahesi test in 2 weeks and im nervous. Any suggestion where to study the vocab?

study the vocab in the book. There is really not much help on what can help you on words.
