Herzing University PMHNP January 2023

Updated:   Published

Hey guys/gals

It's been a long time since I've been on here, so howdy everyone! I will be starting Herzing Psych NP Program this January. I haven't been in school in a while and my traditional BSN program did not require much writing. My writing skills kinda suck LOL. How is the writing, discussion posts, teachers, assignments, exam for the program at Herzing? I do come with over 5 years in psych experience and I am anxious to start. Anyone starting and would like to buddy up? Any current students? Is the program doable? Tips, suggestions? When should I start looking for preceptors?

Thanks

I am 1 semester from finishing the program, and honestly, even as an alumni of Herzing's BSN program (on site), I would not do this program again if I had it to do over. I would have chosen another school. This is a newer program for Herzing online. The first cohort just graduated last semester, I believe. Most of the classes have been pretty much self-taught with hardly any or no teacher interaction. Tons of APA discussions, case studies, and you mostly get taught by Youtube videos. This program really has a lot of kinks that need to be fixed.

Hi I am also starting the PMHNP program in January 2023. I live in West Palm Beach, Florida. I have 7 years experience working in Psych and Substance abuse, I work closely with the Psych NPs at my current job. So I hope that will help me secure preceptors for clinicals. I read the previous Cohort thread from 2021 and 2020 to get an idea of what I will be getting into. Sounds like a lot of busy work but very doable. I work full-time 3x 12 hour shifts. If any previous students have any insight into the program please let me know. Thank you.

Hi I heard the Yvonne’s PMHNP review is a must all my colleagues passed their boards with that review

For those starting Herzing, I have nothing but positive reviews. I obtained my BSN at Hersing and graduated the PMHNP program a week ago. It's online, so what you put in, you get out of it. Alot of papers and miscellaneous assignments but doable. I've been board prepping since March and feel confident about testing (I test in 12 days).

Thanks for the positivity! I start soon and waiting on admissions. Can you share how the exams were? Straight to the point from the videos/lectures or a wide range from the textbooks? Also, were you proctored or just timed for exams? Any feedback for success will be very appreciated. I have been working in the psych field for over 7years and looking forward to growth in my career.  I love the fact that the classes are doable, and you have to put in an effort to pass. I was told that you need at least 25hours weekly to study.

Hello, I started the PMHNP program at Herzing Summer of 2021. I graduate this August. It is a fast-paced, intense program. I have no complaints. It is a typical online program with a lot of homework.

Didn't want to start a new thread, but how's this program going for everyone? I'm supposed to be starting next month and am very excited. I work at a large psych facility and have a lot of contacts so I'm not super worried about clinical placement fortunately, but I'm wondering how many hours yall are able to work without losing your minds?

Guys I am sorry, Herzing University PMHNP-MSN program is very very misleading. Please don't go here. I have a horrible experience and a year in the program I'm transferring to another school now. You are on your own with everything, no guidance, you find your own preceptor and they try to find every fault to deny your preceptor application, there are pop-up exams to fail you and kick you out of the program. They incorporate courses into the program and don't notify the students at all. All of a sudden you are blindsided and scrambling to study for an exam that wasn't even listed on your program guide. RUN!! from this school. This school doesn't care about student you are just $$$$ to them. In the middle of the course there is a 3P exam that no one tells you about so that you won't know to prepare for it and if you don't pass it on the 2nd try they stop all your progress and place you in a remediation class, but spoiler alert the remediation class has nothing to do with the 3P exam. On the final try if you don't pass you are dismissed from the program and they take half the tuition you have paid up to this point. It's just another gimmick to take your money and pay more money. This exam is listed no where on their website nor does the admissions coordinator tell you anything whatsoever about it. It's a big secret to fail student half way into the program! Please find a better school. You will be burnt out physically and mentally. You will have clinical rotation, have to do your clinicals notes and still have papers, discussion posts and other assignments due. This is ridiculous! Find a University that cares about students

This is not a totally true statement. All herzing instructors I had there was no problem at all here. it is indeed a lot of work and yes you have the APEA exam to write which is a way to weed out people from the program. Other online programs are not going to find you any preceptors as I have yet to find any that did before going to Herzing University. A lot of Masters's programs are not going to do this for you even the public ones.  It's an intense program with a lot of assignments, discussions, exams, papers, projects and whatnot, so if you aren't organized and use your time wisely you will definitely fall off the wagon on this. I am graduating next month with a 4.0 GPA along with working full time (3-4 days a week) doing this. It was a lot of work but I had amazing instructors and preceptors that helped along the way.

Hi Mimi,

I just started my FNP program here at Herzing. The advisors have been helpful along they way and upon taking an orientation course they did mention the APEA or what we call a clinical proficiency exam. Was that hard? I read mostly positive reviews about Herzing but seeing some negative ones now worries me. Does the school raise tuition throughout the semesters? Is it true what the above person said "They incorporate courses into the program and don't notify the students at all?"

Pleas help. Thanks in advance.

Well that was my experience that's why I left. That same month they fired the Chair of the PMHNP program that I was in. So it may be better now. Hopefully!
