Nursing Students School Programs

Published

So I have read some pretty horrible reviews about Herzing and it is pretty scary, however, I am about to start my journey with Herzing in August and I want to give the school a fair chance. Yes it is expensive to attend but Florida is embarking on this progress where hospitals are having/requiring magnet status which means that RNs need to have a Bachelor degree. Herzing does not have a waiting list so if you meet the qualifications, you are good to go. My goal is to post weekly or monthly updates on the progress to provide real up-to-date experiences that will either justify the complaints I have read or shed light on more updated information as to how the program is currently. I can confirm, however, that the school is accredited and their NCLEX pass rates are pretty high. I suggest you go to whatever state board of nursing website that applies to your state and research for yourselves so you can see where the school stands. Looking forward to reading your comments!

Thanks so much for the info!!! Please keep us update throughout your journey. I'm even more excited to start now. Best of luck!!!

What are the requirements for this program? And is it accredited? I'm finding it difficult to get a straight answer from the admissions office. They keep asking me to set up an appointment where I will find everything out but I live in NY and would like to gather as much information as I can before I make the trip down there.

By the way...I have a bachelor's degree in Biology and am looking into the BSN program.

Hey @nursinghopeful5! From experience I can relate to the fact that they do require you to come in face to face because of different options. They do have an accelerated program which is what I'm in because I already have a bachelors degree. Have you taken the TEAS exam? If you already took that and have scores that are within their requirements then the next step would be sending unofficial transcripts that the Advisor would take to the registrar to review and give you an idea of needed credit. Basically I only have one class outside of nursing classes because they didn't accept my fine arts as a humanities class. Once you have the qualifying Teas score and they review your transcript, they will let you know where you go next whether you have to take an addition class or two or you are able to start the next term which I believe is in January. Are you moving to Orlando?

Thanks for your quick response! I am scheduled to take the TEAS in a couple of weeks. I am definitely willing to relocate as many of the accelerated nursing programs in NY have long waiting lists and I would probably have to wait at least a year to begin the program here. If you don't mind me asking, how do you like the program? What is your schedule like? Ideally I would like to be able to have a part time job down there to help fund my living expenses, but I don't want to be overwhelmed with going to school and working. Was it fairly easy to get into the program?

Very easy to get in. I love it. Email me [email protected]. I'll give you more info then

Hi Nursinghopeful!

Herzing is accredited thru Higher Learning Commision and if your looking into the BSN program they are accredited thru CCNE and approved by the Florida Board of Nursing. As cgriff mentioned upon completion of your TEAS get your unofficially transcripts over to your Advisor and they will provide it to the registrar and advise you which courses they will accept as a transfer. It's very easy to get in once you go thru the registration process. Hope this helps and good luck!

How's school going for those who have started?

Where are clinicals done? I've read that some Herzing graduates have problems finding a job due to a poor school reputation. Is this true?

Hi!

I know they are done at Florida Hospital, Central Fl Regional and bunch of nursing homes. I have a co-worker who has graduated from Herzing (LPN-RN), already working with Orlando Health and after she got her RN she transferred to APH ED with no problem. I actually just met 3 more people whom work with Orlando Health and are in the Nursing program with Herzing and have had no complaints.

Hello cgriff08!

Thank you for taking the time to post about your experience so far! I am looking into the accelerated BSN program. I have a bachelors in Psychology. Hopefully want to start my 4 pre-reqs in January so I can start core classes in May. I was there last week and loved it, but haven't heard from the advisor since last week, she had told me she would call me Monday after speaking with the Nurse Director but I never got a call, I called her earlier today and left a voice-mail but have not heard back.

How was the initial process for you as far as applying and getting your paperwork done? Did you take the TEAS test for admission or the KAPLAN? I was told I would need to take the KAPLAN since they switched over to that. Any information would be great!! thanks :)

Thanks!

Mayra

Good afternoon Mayrad

I have to take the kaplan as well I am nervous I'm wanting to start in January. Do you know how much the test is I tried emailing my advisor and asking but she never responded back as of yet. Did you get the review that they sell to help study for it ? My advisor told me u can buy it on Amazon but I'm not sure what edition we are suppose to get.
