I had one today who complained of "a funny taste in my mouth". My first question: "Did you brush your teeth this morning?" Nope! Well that explains it!!!
I would think the teacher would at least ask that before sending them to me to investigate. All she wrote on the referral was "something wrong with her mouth". How many days til break again????
Got a kid sent to me yesterday because his jacket zipper was stuck. Although it wasn't one of the required courses at school, I guess I must have the magic ability to unstick jackets....
I also wonder what on earth I'm supposed to do when a kid with a loose tooth is sent up! No, it's not bleeding. Kid is wiggling it back and forth. Smiling. Do they think I'm a dentist?
Oh, and then the child that came up because she "sneezed 3 times". No fever, allergies, congestion, runny nose/sore throat/headache. Just sneezed 3 times. Geesh!!

MC3... With the loose tooth kids. If it's really, really loose, I ask them if it's really bothering them. If so, I offer them some gauze to help grip their slippery tooth, to they (themselves) can pull it out if they so desire. If they don't want to do that, they I tell them to resist the urge to wiggle it while in school & ask mom & dad to take care of it when they get home.
I had a teacher send a little girl last week for "ear ache." Okay, my dear, why do you think your ear hurts? "Because I scratched it." Sure enough, she had a tiny little sore place in a fold of the pinna.
The ones I love are those kids who say they've had a stomachache or a headache "for the last 3 minutes." Oy~
