I just came home from ft. myers beach and the cape & ft. myers are shut down ready & waiting. The beach was soooo nice today with a little cloud cover, nice breeze, and medium sizewaves. My kids & I had a great time in the water. No traffic has been heaven. I'm dreading losing air conditioning & computer access worst than anything. Is there anyone left in sw florida???????Wish us luck and please say prayers for us. bye:uhoh21: :uhoh21: :uhoh21: :uhoh21:

Will certainly be keeping all our Floridians in our thoughts and prayers.
Stil hoping this thing will do a lot of fizzling out before making landfall.. hoping for a cat 1, although this cna still create a lot of damage, as we all have witnessed.
Wishing you all the best possible scenario.. take cover, and BE SAFE !!! :kiss

Good luck. You know when the hurricanes knocked out power that was what I was going to miss too, in that order...air conditioning and computer access.

I'm a little bit north of you... between Sarasota and Tampa. In fact, my brother in law who lives in Cape Coral drove up to ride out the storm here. Hope all goes well for you!

We evacuated at 6am this morning and are in a hotel in Winter Haven. Wasn't taking any chances this time around!!
There was a few tornados reported not far from our hotel...this could be a rough night!
Hope you fare well.
I hope we don't come home to a flooded house!

I'm over here near Health Park waiting it out. My dog has finally given up barking at the wind whistling in the windows (not sure what she thought was trying to come in!) and gone to sleep in the closet. If it gets much louder I may go join her!:chair:
Stay hunkered down and take care!

May I ask, what does it cost to insure your home against hurricanes, floods, etc.?
Since this thread was started, insurance rates have risen dramatically. The insurance on my house is now up to about $4000.00 a year for hurricane, fire, flood, etc. I have a separate policy for flood because my primary carrier doesn't do flood insurance. In 2005 my insurance was about $2500.00 a year. I was rezoned into a flood zone and am only 11 feet above sea level. The higher elevations have much cheaper flood insurance rates, and mortgage companies don't require it in all zones.
As long as there is no hurricane, I think the rates have leveled off. Looks like we're going to end this season in good shape. Whew.

I used to pay a little over $4000.00 a year too. After installing hurricane shutters and doing a mitigation inspection my annual premium went down to 1800.00 a year with the same coverage. Even if you don't have shutters you might still qualify for a roof discount (for the way the trusses are attached to the walls). Check you with our insurance company they might have some restrictions on who might do the inspection. Some insurance companies allow home inspectors to do it other required them to be done by contractors. It might be worth it taking the time and looking in to it.
Wow, so that doesn't include all your house insurance or is the 4,000 for hurricane, fire and flood only?
