HELP!!! University of Perpetual Help or Olivarez College?

Hi, when I was inquiring about BSN in Perpetual about 3 years ago, I noticed that they have a lot of religious subjects, unlike in Olivarez college which is a seemingly more secular college. Olivarez, I believe is more flexible when it comes to second course takers.

i advised that u enroll in university of perpetual in laspinas! bec that is my alma mater. i love my own. :xmas_smilies_daz: i am already a nurse and waiting for ATT for nclex. c u around the campus...

I went to those schools as a second courser. At first, I enrolled in Perpetual Las Pinas but because they wanted me to repeat a few subjects, including PE, I transferred to Olivarez College. I agree that Olivarez is more advisable for second coursers. As to the standards of education, I think Perpetual is more strict in enforcing to that effect. Anyway, it all boils down to the determination of the student to make it good in his academics, regardless of the school.

I graduated from Olivarez, passed the NLE and NCLEX and now processing my Visa Screen. I don't think my fate will change had i graduated from Perpetual.. It all depends on you.. and the One above.

Hey Guys!

Thanks for all the replies. I appreciate it a lot! Up to now my mind is hurting as to what choice of school! But your replies has helped me in so many ways...I inquired already with UPHR and told me that it will take me 3 years to fininsh the course (considering I graduated with a medical related course) and only credited few subjects, PE, thelogy/religion, etc are still pending prior to approval of concerned personel...What turns me off is the longer period for me to finish the course and all the other minor subjects I have to retake under their system. Are all these subjects related to the practice of nursing? As to Olivarez still have to go their and have my transcripts evaluated.

I agree with bebe13 100% ! I believe the the student will play a significant role in his/her succcess with the studies plus the divine intervention of our Lord! Its just that I want to have a good start with my nursing education, or the best place to nurture my nursing skills and knowledge. Especially, to finish it in the shortest period possible without compromising the knowledge, education, skills, etc. Please share with me your experiences with Olivarez? The learning environment and acquisition of important and related skills? Are all the 2nd coursers group in one section or is it all mixed up together with the regular students? For how many semester and summers to finish the nursing program? Once enrolled what is your status, regular or irregular student? How about the faculties or clinical instructors? Hospital affiliations? RLEs? and other significant details that can help me decide to go Olivarez?

Aside from the subjects they want you to take are there other factors that influenced you to transfer to Olivarez? Do you agree Olivarez is a good school for 2nd coursers?

hi impulse23! what medical field have you finished? u will repeat pe and theology we call it FCL if the course description in your school is different from uphsd. second degree students were placed in one section if you are in third year and fourth year already. i am not a second degree student.... take care.....

Whatever I will state here is solely based on my experience. I am not here to point out that one school is better than the other. I'll be presenting the info just for your comparative analysis. I have nothing against any of the subject schools.

RLE / Hospital affiliations - OC has more and varied hospital affiliations, hence, OC students got better RLE experience and longer hospital exposure. By second year, they got to carry out actual injections. This I did not experience at UPHR.

Faculty - Most CI's are younger, hence, easier to get along. However, since they are not well experienced, what they could share to their students is also limited. These could explain why Perpetualites have an edge in theoretical aspects over the Olivarians.

Time to finish the course - It took me 3 years to earn my BSN degree at OC. I think it would be longer had I stayed at UPHR because there were about 20 units being required by UPHR for me to repeat then but were credited by OC.

Sectioning - the 1st and 2nd coursers are mixed at OC.

rle / hospital affiliations - oc has more and varied hospital affiliations, hence, oc students got better rle experience and longer hospital exposure. by second year, they got to carry out actual injections. this i did not experience at uphr. i have no idea with regards to the number of hospital affiliates of oc nor its number of hours of duty but with perpetual, i think my hospital exposures were sufficient and our clinical instructors taught us well. i do believe i can perform nursing skills well enough and i'm confident i could match skills or even exceed others. by 2nd yr, our clinical instructors have taught us basic skills like taking vital signs, how to inject and compute for drug dosages and many more.
faculty - most ci's are younger, hence, easier to get along. however, since they are not well experienced, what they could share to their students is also limited. these could explain why perpetualites have an edge in theoretical aspects over the olivarians. we also have young clinical instructors in perpetual but most of them handle 2ndyr students, or sometimes assigned in the community.
