Hello all! I need some advice. I was in the nursing program from a private school. I was removed from the program because I failed 2 classes. The 2nd class was about the proctored ATI exam we have to do at the end of each class. This is where I failed the class, not the lecture/theory and not the clinical. What sucks is that this ATI is the policy from the syllables, but not according to the school handbook (eventhough the school said that some policies were changed when we were in the program, which I have no clue). Also, this school is not accredited, as they did not pass the NCLEX pass rate. We found out about this late december, but the school knew about it last May 2011. It took the school 7 months to give us an option to get our refund but now credits will be given, or we can continue on.
I am one class away from graduating. I wish that they could have given me another chance (we have to retakes for ATI exam). What I am bitter about is that, 2 of my classmates were also given 3rd chance (this is not ati EXAM, its the medical calculation quiz that we do at the beginning of a new class-only 2 retakes or a student cannot move on to the next class).
Now, I am in debt for loans and out of pocket money that the loans did not cover. I cannot get my official transcript due to my balance. I am now having a hard time trying to transfer my credits. 1 school i inquired in (private nursing school-not accredited yet) might take all credits, BUT they will have to test me out for each class (what a pressure!). The community college I was hoping for to get in, cannot take my credits because it shows I have 2 failures (eventhough I think the other 1 was technically passed). the 3rd school is another private nursing program- also not accredited yet, not even sure what or will they credit my classes. Also, not even sure if I will get approve for another loan (i have financila problem with my house).
I hear this quote all the time: "Things happen for a reason"... I don't see why this is happening, I don't know what is the reason for this to happen. I don't even see the light from wherever tunnel i'm at right now.
WHERE DO I GO, WHAT DO I DO? SHould I file a lawsuit? should i get my refund? HOW and WHERE TO START?

Welcome to AN! The largest online nursing community.
I am so sorry this is happening to you.... But......We cannot offer legal advice. I would just keep looking for somewhere to take your credits. Do your homework on your next school. I would however check with your state attorney Generals office about the business practices of this school...they may be able to help you.
Good luck. When one door closes another one opens.

If you get a refund would it cover just the out of pocket money or the loan as well? If it covers the loan I would take the refund and apply to an accredited school. Even though you would not get any of the credits and you already invested your time you still LEARNED something. No lack of accreditation can take that away from you even if it does not transfer. Sorry I can't be of more help and good luck!
@ Esme12: Thanks, I am so overwhelmed right now. Everyone I talked to told me the same thing. I am in contact with the NV State Board of Nursing and I have proofs from the discrimination they did to me ( I was with my classmate when she failed the med. calc. quiz the 2nd time- should be failed, but they gave her 3rd chance).
@DarkLotus: I am not be able to get the refund, becaues the school will come back to me and will say: We gave you an option to quit or continue. Should I use the defense of them lying to the students that the school knew about being not accredited last May?
Oh sorry I thought you failed the second course before they told you they were not accredited.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles :-/. It all sounds extremely stressful. I would most definitely contact an attorney...many will talk to you for free to see if they think they can help you - cant hurt, right?
I'm sure, whatever you do, the silver lining will be clear once you're through the storm. Graduating from an unaccredited school is rough - you cannot compete with the hoards of people flowing out of accredited programs in a saturated program, but you have 4xs the loans you desperately need to pay.
.So maybe the best choice is to try to test out of courses at your CC, and retake what you need to. If you don't pass the test, just consider it a blessing that you weren't pushed out into the world without a mastery of that area It would be tough, but cheap and much better for your career, from what I can see.
Whatever you decide to do, best of luck to you!
@stephalump
The school who will test me out is another private school that is not accredited yet (Everest). All of the school options have an entrance exam that really stresses me out. Kaplan is the other school i'm talking about.
I don't even have the $ to sue the school. I am a single mom and unemployed :-(
Thanks for ask the advice. Sometimes I think that if I have to retake the whole thing, it might not be to bad as I already went through it all. Its just the time, money and the disappointment from the people who is supporting me :-( I could have been helping them after finishing the nursing program :-(
I meant all the advice.

Ok, sorry for the confusion.
I have to say, nearly all of us have had to do it the old-fashioned way, including taking stressful entrance exams and stressful prereqs, but we survived and are still standing.
I don't know the reasons why you chose the school you did, but I'd consider taking some time to re-evaluate how to protect yourself in the future, since this situation appears to be a loss. You could jump to another overpriced, easy to get into, easy to fail out of program, but you see where easy has gotten you, thus far. Broke and degree-less.
Ouch! But you are right. That's why I am now skeptic of the 2 private schools. I am really considering the CC, because of their long time accreditation. Kaplan might be a 2nd choice, because of the fact of their accreditation from other states and they are well established with passing the NCLEX. But then again, don't know what credits will they credit and where will get $ to pay.
