Help with Research Topic ASAP!!!!

Okay guys. I give up! I have to write a 5-7 page research paper this summer for my college comp. class. I have to have three possible topics ready for class tomorrow morning and I can't figure out what I want to do. Everything I choose seems too broad or I can't find much information on. Since I don't have that much time left (about 4 1/4 weeks) I don't want to be on a fishing expedition.

I am not allowed to do: abortion, legalizing marijuana, lowering the drinking age, euthanasia (would have been my first choice), death penalty, gun control and eating disorders.

HELP Please!!! I just need someone to jog my mind here so that I can come up with something!

i still think sex is a good topic!! :p
something on the lines of leagalizing prostitution:idea: (controlling thier std's or making them pay taxes) would work!!! would be an interesting topic, i think.

Hi, I'm new here, but how about something on diabetes, or the over use of antibiotics.

why not sex? if it must be an informative paper...why not which positions feel best...which batteries work best...

LOL @ Wendy..you are cracking me up!

I am trying to do something that I am at least somewhat interested in right now too, since it is going to take over much of my life for the next month. I just get irritated with the whole WMD thing and I'm not as much into the medical things since I know that I will have to do papers later on them. KWIM? Thanks guys. I think I have my three (actually four) and if he knocks them all down, I'll have to go back to sqaure one!

i did a paper on elderly abuse and got good reviews from my professors. there is a lot of information in the library about it and on the net. it is a subject that can also be narrowed down to hit the most important highlights that are known to initiate elderly abuse such as:

1. stressed out caregivers (usually the children) that care for an ailing elderly person are more prone to abuse because they feel overwhelmed and burdened with caring for the person and feel that they don't have a life of their own.

2. children who are substance abusers are more likely to abuse the elderly.

3. no access to health care or limited access to care/resources force the elderly to depend on people that don't really care for them.

4. elderly people that live alone are the biggest target because they are vulnerable to trusting people that may only have a financial interest in helping them.

good luck with your paper.

Medication coverage and the elderly. It's amazing how little Medicare is actually helping the poor seniors with their medications.

Noninvasive blood sugar monitoring. There is quite a story about how it started. There was supposed to be "a black box" that would do noninvasive blood sugar monitoring. Many $$ were paid for the development. The people who were the developers took the money and ran. They left exactly what the title was, an empty black box. Quite a scandal. It would be quite interesting to track the development and the slow progress in this area. I know that in 1990 they said they would have noninvasive meters in 5 years. In 1995, they said 5 more years. Guess what they're saying today.... "5 more years!" :uhoh3: If you do this paper, I would LOVE to read it! Audrey

I'm in the process of writing a research paper for one of my nursing classes right now and I chose Margaret Sanger/the history of the birth control movement (Planned Parenthood and its predecessors). Pretty interesting subject matter, and lots of information available on it. Don't know how close this would be considering you can't do the abortion angle, but it's really a whole other subject in itself - some people may not view it that way, though.

Good luck choosing a topic and writing your paper! :)

It's really hard to find a subject that can be whittled down to five to seven pages. *sigh* I'd almost rather have a larger one!

We did an interesting research presentation on HER-2 in breast cancer - lots of info on that. Also the use of unlicensed assistive personnel is also a boatload of available resources. I think the idea for stem cell research would be very interesting.

Others:

teens and smoking

use of leeches, maggots for wound debridement

near-death experiences

deep brain stimulation to treat Parkinsons, etc

Hope that helps. :p

How about fetal alcohol syndrome or childhood obesity?

Hey Kim, Your subject can be broad, but you only need to tackle a tiny part of it. It can be tough to narrow down your topic at first. But once you start researching, you can find your own angle (and magically, your thesis!) I found it helpful to start my researching without any inkling of my direction - only a vague notion of questions to ask about my topic. Then as I read, I learned more. As I learned, I formed an opinon and decided on my eventual direction. Follow your instincts. You can do it! And I'll be glad to proof read for ya. :wink2:
