Help with ordering a "Sweeping Second Hand" Watch from Allheart.com

Published

I'm starting nursing school in january, and they require that we get a Watch with a sweeping second hand. I'm already starting to order other things from allheart.com ( the prices seem good ). I was trying to find a watch with a sweeping hand on there, but it doesn't specify that. And I don't' want to get the wrong kind of watch. Anyone know? Thanks :)

isn't a sweeping second hand just another name for a watch with a second hand ? ! ? !

that's what i thought at first, but aren't there watches out there where the second hand doesn't tick? it's just a continual second hand that "sweeps" across the watch. i don't know, that's what i was thinking though.

I image any watch with a second hand will be OK. You'll need that when counting respirations and such.

yeah - it would seem unreasonable to me that you couldn't just get any watch with a second hand. Someone once told me that it's not very common to find the "sweeping" second hand outside of very high end watches. I never explored this statement further. Besides... 95% of all watches and clocks you see will have a ticking second hand.

You're right, there are watches where the second hand smoothly glides by instead of ticking, but I can't see how that could be of increased help in taking a pulse.

If your school requires it though, you probably ought to get one, but I had trouble finding one on a google search that wasn't really expensive. I did see one at Nurses Station for $59.95 - kind of silly looking, but here's the link. http://www.nursesdirect.com/product.html?t_q=RJ771

I called the school and left a message for them to call me back. I'm hoping they just mean any watch with a second hand, because those sweeping second hand watches are too expensive and they are hard to find.

Don't mean to be offensive but I checked that link and I don't think you should go for a watch with all that other stuff in it. Just a regular watch with a second hand. Like this one from Allheart

Or possibly this one with the advantage that it's gel and you can just wipe it clean with EtOH wipes like I do. Plus this one has 24-hour time on it.

Thanks!! I'm still waiting to hear back from the school, and if they say it's just a second hand they need then I'm getting the gel one from Allheart.com. I like those :D ... the white one is pretty, but I'm guessing the gel ones will be easier to clean.

I found this one on Kohl's website. I think it is a decent looking watch at a decent price.

don't spend to much at this point you will get to do that later, and never by that stuff from the school you will pay 3x the price if it has a second hand thats all you need. wether it cost 30.oo at allheart or 5.00 from walmart. good luck...

In regards to sweeping second hand.On a inexpensive watch, you most likely will not find one as they use the cheaper "quartz movement",it is run by battery power and has a "click, click, click" movement(hard to take a pulse like that, you can end up counting clicks instead of beats).A "sweep" second hand is just that,it steadly sweeps along without and click stops. However, these are found on "mechanical" movements(you wind them)more expensive swiss watches have a "prepetual" movement where as long as you wear it,the watch is winding and has a reserve for when you take it off so it is still keeping accurate time. They are however expensive, but worth it for duribility and acuracy.I posted on another thread about "perfect nurse watch" mine is a Rolex Explorer II.why do I consider it perfect for nursing? First it is made from a solid block of 904 L(surgical grade) stainless steel with a saphire chrystal and is preasure proof to 330 feet, some down to 600 feet, its autoclave proof,as is the "Officaly Certified Chonometer" movement. A Luminox dial can be read in total darkness, without disturbing the Pt.it has a 24 hour hand witch tells me Military time at a glance and 2 time zones and a date window and it is impervious to any thing a nurses hand would come in contact with.It is however ,a guys watch and is a heavty investment, you can hand it down to your grand kids. But,if quality and acuracy are what you want in a durible, classy, ultra rugged, acurate watch. The Explorer II is it,sorry, they do not make a ladies version as of yet
