HELP! New RN in need of job in CT, NY or MA

Published

Hey everyone,

For those in hope of passing the NCLEX

Hello everyone,

I am looking for any advice or leads to finding an RN job ASAP!

I am a male RN with an ADN from a community college in Massachusetts in 2008. After a series of unfortunate events I finally became an RN in North Carolina in December of 2009. I am moving back to CT and am looking for a job in NYC, CT, and Boston MA. Unfortunately I am seeing that a lot of places want only BSN RN's. I want to start in a Hospital setting preferably working with pediatrics (also preferred), but may be open to doing home care.

I am also concerned about the gap I will have with no RN employment from the time I graduated (2008) to the time I got my RN License (Dec. 2009), to looking for a job in CT now (March 2010).

If anyone has any advice or knows of any classes that I can take to keep my brain active please do share! Or better yet, if anyone knows of their employer looking to hire a new nurse please let me know so I can apply!

Thanks All,

-RN G

Me too, and let me tell you, no matter what they say the BSN doesn't help. I've submitted over 100 aps. I've got a BSN, and can't even get an interview.

Does anyone know how can I transfer my NY RN license to CT? Thank you

Please I need a job in Connecticut. I wish I knew someone in the hospital.

The job problem is all over the country. I have NY RN license and I can't find job since last november. So I thought I can go and look in CT

So do you have a BSN now? I am answering mainly because you have the same last name as I do. I would be interested in your family history (Tammaro). To get a license in any state, once you have a license in your state of residence, see if your state and the state you are going to is part of the compact. If so, you just need to register with the Board of Nursing. If not, you just need to complete an application with the state Board of Nursing and pay the fee. Also, it is best to call the hospital and see if there is a specific nurse recruiter. Call him/her and find out if they hire new grads and if they do not, ask if they know where they might be hiring. Do not give up. I applied for the job I have now six months before and they hired someone in-house and it did not work out and I applied again and they hired me even though their policy was to hire someone in-house first (meaning for this instance, from their 5 adult hospitals and 2 children's hospitals). It is much easier to hire someone in-house who knows their computer documentation system etc., but in this instance, they knew I was the best qualified. If you need to go to a nursing home or rehab center where they are always short of help, you may need to do that. I would not do home care unless you have some general med/surg experience, and if they would hire a new grad, I would not really give credence to them as a stellar home care agency. In home care you have to think on your feet and know all the answers because you have no one as back-up. You also need to know the symptoms you are seeing are distinctive to a particular scenario and you won't know that right out of nursing school. Another route to go, and one I have in the past, is just hire an independent nurse recruiter. Not having experience though would make that a little difficult. HAVE a professionally written resume. And if you have no RN experience, put in skills you do have that might help - like you worked as an aide, familiar with microsoft office, worked well with diverse people in...............etc. You can do it.

Oh I'm really surprised about the name. I'm from Romania. I had graduated from romania with BSN and I have RN license in NY I have 3 years med surg. and OR experience. I applied everywhere even nursing homes and home care agencies but no one answered me back. Thanks for all information. Having BSN doesn't help me and most of the places they are asking for BSL ASLC. What did you mean with In-house? I don't have experience about these terms.

Hi Debonair

Thanks a lot. Where can I get these information about states compact.

Compact state license only works as long as you maintain permanent residency in one state that is on the list and work in another state on the list. If you have to get permanent residency in the new state you have to apply for endorsement and meet requirements.

NCSBN website will have all relevant information regarding compact state etc

Thank you Silverdragon for reply. I have permanent residency in NY. What I heard if I need to transfer my license to another State. That I need to sit and study for another exam because NCLEX-RN it's not available in all states. Then I have to check NCSBN.

You have been told wrong. NCLEX is a national exam and accepted by all states you however do have to meet state requirements for endorsement. You may have a problem if you trained in certain places like Excelsior as some states do not accept Excelsior but I don't think there are many that have this issue
