Hi, I will be starting a LVN program in about a month. Does anyone have an opinion on when I should purchase the Nclex review books, should I buy now or toward the end of the class. ( my program is a intense :eek:1 yr program) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I bought mine within the first two weeks of school starting. I used them all the time for test review/studying etc. Our school had tests that were NCLEX-type questions so the review books really helped me with the way to answer the questins.
I always made sure that the ones I got had a CD that I could load onto the computer. I would spend more time doing review questions/tests on the computer than to sit with paper and pencil and do the tests that way.

Now!
If you can find out which review book your school recommends I would suggest getting it now and starting to review the test taking skills section. I also used my review books all through school and felt very ready to take the NCLEX when the time came. Congratulations on getting started in nursing school.

I say the same...get it even before you start. If you begin by studying from them as you go along, you'll be more used to answering NCLEX-Styled questions, getting higher marks and most importantly, getting your license on your first try. Everything you will be doing is helping you along the road of taking NCLEX, so, the sooner, the better!

Find out what review books your school recommends....then get the books and start looking through them as soon as you can. Many schools put NCLEX type questions on thier regular tests. The more familiar you become with this format and type of reasoning the better your tests scores will be.

As soon as possible! My program is 11.5 months and I got mine in the 5th month. So sorry I waited long.

I personally wouldn't buy it until you've been introduced to the whole critical thinking otherwise the questions may not make alot of sense. I know that was the hardest for me to get a grip of. You can buy them now and look at them but the rationales will make a lot more sense after fundamentals. Critical thinking is the one thing that I found most people in my class had a hard time with, but once you figure out the trickery and theory behind the questions, it makes more sense. Congrats on the LVN program and best of luck to you.

I bought several of these books at different times (as I could afford one) and used them throughout school for study and review. I highly recommend getting at least one at the beginning and don't let it sit on your desk waiting for post graduation NCLEX study. Start using it now. These NCLEX review books can be some of the best friends you make before you take the NCLEX.
