So I just failed the nclex for the 2nd time. I don't consider myself stupid but this really sucks!!! The priority and SATA questions are my problem. I have done Hurst and it is really good for core content but teaches nothing on test strategies and they really don't have a lot of practice tests. In my class, at least, there was no mention of anything like these questions. What others strategies, resources, advice etc. that I might use? I am an older student and Computer Adaptive Testing is just kicking my ass!!! I want to go back to #2 pencils and scantrons lol!!

You might want to post this in the NCLEX Student Forum. This is General Nursing, and not as likely to get much input. The board devoted to the test will care more

Hi ~ I'm sorry of your NCLEX result; I can imagine it's frustrating and disappointing. Take a little time to re-group and get on the bandwagon and try again. With a few studying tweaks - you can passed the next time for sure!
I'm an older student also, and just finished my BSN. I took NCLEX last week. Like you've likely witnessed, the test is somewhat tricky/variable on some q's asked. I used several resources (and studied almost two months): HURST, Kaplan, Saunder's, NCSBN and LaCharity. I agree with you HURST is great for core content (with details) though I feel it's lacking some on question practice and strategies. I felt Kaplan was good for content (though not detailed; more summarized) and the questions were really good (qbank and qtrainers). Also, Kaplan has several content videos and question videos. I swear by the question videos - they discuss about 300 q's (break down the stem and discuss/reason the answer choices). You walk through it, and after some watching and practice I can honestly say you better master NCLEX questions!! Saunder's is very detailed for core content (I read about half of the book - nearly all fundamentals and systems - though a few chapters on medications only). Saunder's questions are good - though much easier than NCLEX. NCSBN (makers of NCLEX) is a good resource and not expensive - has both core content and a lot of practice q's (similar to NCLEX). La Charity PDA book is awesome for priority and delegation questions - it's not very big and the questions are very similar to NCLEX. Overall, a few resources may benefit you as different resources provide more/less information - when you utilize a few the puzzle fits together nicely. For me, a good balance of a few resources for content, q's practice and strategy was key.
Find out what your CPR report says about your test and hop back in the game. I'm cheering for you and know you will pass the next time!!

Richfield1977 let me start by saying I feel your pain! I graduated from high school in 1976 and nursing school in 2013. I did okay in nursing school but the NCLEX has me beaten and bruised. After failing a 3rd time a few weeks ago I am finding it difficult to regroup and form a study plan yet again. I did Hurst review, kaplan online and several review books. HURST was great for content review but not so much for strategy. Also the SATA questions kill me. My plan is to complete Lippincott' s Alternative Format book and a couple books on strategy (Kaplans & Lippincott s) and do at least 50 plus questions a day until test #4. I am also considering an online tutor from caring4you.net but since it is pricey I haven't moved forward with it at this point. Good luck to you. I hope the third time is the charm for you.
Yeah I just bought the Lippincott' s Alternative Format book. It had a lot of positive reviews so hopefully it will help. Kaplan opened all the online materials for me for 45 days and I will probably watch them but content isn't really my problem?? Good luck to you as well
