Help...I CAN'T fail nursing school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone please help me...I am about to get into Med Surg III at ECPI...and the instructor we will most likely have is....well let me just say the last term...9 people out of 20 failed her class. If anyone has had her..MRS. B...I know I can't say her name but if someone had her then they will know who I am talking about by using MRS.B. She ain't no joke. So someone please help me out with any information about how I need to prepare for her. I can't fail...I have come so far. Please any info will help.

Exactly, know your stuff, meet her objectives, have confidence in yourself and you'll be golden. It is possible to pass her class, 11 out of 20 people did and I'm sure there was a good reason those 9 people did fail. I had a difficult instructor as well (didn't find out she was the hard one until about half way through the class) but in the end I was thankful to have the harder instructor, I learned a lot and I felt more prepared for the rest of nursing school than my classmates who had easy instructors. Anyway, don't approach her class (if you do end up having her) as if you are doomed to fail, you never know, it could turn out to be the best experience you've ever had.

I amazed at the number of people that blame failure on a certain teacher. If you know your stuff you will pass. You have to take responsibilty for your own learning. Blaming the teacher is just an excuse. I had one teacher that was tough on the class but she also an excellent teacher that expected us to know what were doing. She is also an active RN that I had the pleasure of working with. She is an awesome nurse.

I do understand the OP's concerns but it is NOT a good idea to post any sort of information here that can be used to determine who a poster is. While the OP has identified only the initials of the school and the last initial of the instructor, it would be taken very poorly if that instructor happened to be a member of AllNurses and found this post. There are a LOT of nursing instructors on this forum and if the OP's instructor is among them, the OP is likely to face a bit of hostility during the clinical experience.

Not saying one should not talk about one's concerns but OP, you might wish to edit your post or have a moderator do so because it gives just enough information that you could seriously get into trouble with this instructor.

ETA: good grief, is that the location of the school and your grad date in your user name? PLEASE, OP, get this changed or you could end up facing consequences worse than a tough instructor!

I am sorry but after having had mean S.O.B (and not short of breath) instructors. I can identify with this student's concerns. Sometimes being prepared cannot prepare you for an instructor with an arbitrary and demeaning malfeasance. Get real people, the criminal instructors are out there to get you.

Talk to her associate Professors. Its a business, and those types should be filtered out. If it doesn't help you, it will help others down the line. Better yet, see the Chairman of the Department. But YOU better be for real, since the beans will all get together and analyze you. But IF you are for real, you will get better treatment than most if a difficult teacher. I hope this stirs up some feasible alternatives for you. Chairman's like to help students that kill themselves over school. Otherwise, you better have a killer personality :lol2:

Okay, as the previous posters stated, you have to know your stuff. But you are wanting some real help and tips besides that. First, are your grades borderline or good...i.e. have you been an excellent student so far? How do you normally do on the nursing quizzes? What study guides have you used to this point, and how have they worked for you? When you you begin this course-soon or next fall...semester or quarter system? Start there......

i feel for you! i know everyone says to "stop blaming your instructor" and "take your learning into your own hands" but there is a reason we are PAYING these people to TEACH US. if we could do it all on our own, then there wouldn't even be schools. we need instructors to do their jobs and teach.

as for someone finding out your identity, there are definitely more than one person who go to that school and who are going to have that instructor and graduate on that day. i don't think you have much to worry about....

good luck. like someone else mentioned, 11 people DID pass and that is a majority. you can do this!

At our school , the last med-surg group had only 4 people to pass. The class size was somewhere in the vicinity of 40 people ( everyone has a different story)

THe "repeaters" who are in there with us are very bitter. And very "us versus them" toward us newbies! Its going to be interesting. I have noticed some less than brilliant students but way too early to say if that is the problem. I am also seeing some unreasonable demands being made. For example : test question not remotely in our text. When this was pointed out her response was, "Well, you have to use whatever sources you need to know as much as you can."

Really ? The world is a pretty big place!

We'll see. My strategy is to learn as much as possible, keep my head down and DOCUMENT.

Study. Only 25 % of my class passed the exit exam (newer nurses you will know what I'm talking about), and the other 75% blammed the instructors/school/ect. Take responsibility and study, then you cannot fail.
