My 2 year old daughter burned, I'd say about 70% of the palm and fingers of R hand last night. Went to the ER and received Lortab and Silvadene as well as dressings to change the bandage. What I would like to know-- is there any type of mitt or sock that can be applied over the bandages to keep the bandage on. She keeps trying to rip them off. In desperation last night, I put on a clean sock and taped it lightly around her wrist to keep her from pulling it off. I will be going to the drug store this afternoon to look around but was hoping for some ideas. Thank you ahead of time!
(Added edit to say--they were all 2nd degree burns)

The sock idea isn't bad, although you might want to cut a hole for her thumb.
You could also try wrapping with an Ace bandage.
How about a pair of cool mittens that she could wear on both hands.
You could tape the dressings in place and then use a sock or mitten to make a hand puppet.
I don't know if drugstores carry this, but what might work is stockinette, the knitted tube dressing that is used for casting. It comes in various widths on rolls that you cut to the desired length.
What ever you do, she might not fight it so much if you do the same thing to one or even a bunch of her dolls or stuffed animals.
How long does she have to have the dressings on?
I wish you both well.
I know she would be happier if her thumb was free, but it was burned the length of it. (She sucks her thumb and of course it is the R thumb).
I am definately going to use the sock puppet idea, I think she will get a kick out of it, especially if I make one for myself too.
Not sure how long we will need the bandages on yet. We go to our regular pedi tomorrow for a recheck and to look for signs of infection, so hopefully she'll give me a better timeline.
Thanks for all the ideas!

Vet wrap is very colorful (neon pink), and I think you can get it @ the drug store, or a pet supply store. Decorate it, as said before. The hand puppet might help her exercise it when the doc says it's ok.
It's just so frustrating when your sucking thumb is unavailable. @ least I think so!!

Make sure that whatever you do the fingers remain well separated and in slightly flexed position. The last thing you want is for adhesion to occur

Long oven mitt works well at nighttime.
