Height and Weight Requirements

Published

How closely does the Army and/or Navy follow the height and weight requirements for the Nurse Corps?

I have seen varied levels of fitness for nurses in the military, and was just wondring if they bend the rules at all...........

I give all of you kudos:yeah: it is amazing what all of you are doing and have accomplished, it gives me hope that I can do the same. I am planning to start filling out paperwork for the AF in February and want to be below the weight by then. I don't have a lot to loose but I don't like to watch what I eat either, I love me some sushi and a good piece of filet.

Anyhow, I meet with a personal trainer for the first time in my life Thursday to start this transition. I've decided that this is something I can't accomplish on my own without some education and accountability.

Thanks for the confidence, all of your stories have helped.

Yep good to have someone to stay on your tail. Iv got a good partner (my wife) we were doing sprints today... she got me the last one! Team-up best way to go; I think so anyway....

It just amazes me we are talking about weight and the lose weight add keeps showing up :-)

LOL I saw that loose weight ad too! :wink2:

I joined a gym which I actually hated(because I used to call it the meat market) but I did think about a personal trainer too. I told a couple of trainers at the gym my goal and the military. They jumped on my butt like flies at a barbeque. When they see me cooling out on the bike or using light weights they yell at me across the room (i think they were drill sergeants in there previous life) and I work a little bit harder. But its paying off and atleast I'll have a little bit of practice of "give me 30 more" at someone's loudest voice!

Thank for all the kudos. :bowingpur

Born in the South or is that learned speech: Flies, butt and barbecue in one sentence (I'm leaning born). :wink2: If your still thinking barbecue: You are not suffering enough! Whats the phone number to that gym :D

I know the suthern nurses would spot that comment. LOL:rolleyes:

Yes born in the south. I tried the midwest but came back to the south after a few years. I have done good I went through the whole football season almost with no barbeque all for joining usn. Thats sacrifice

I didn't read all the posts, but I'll just add on from the Navy side of the house. Wt standards have to be meet just like you have to pass the PRT. I know nurses that lost their overseas orders due to failing wt standards. Also, I know nurses that got selected for 04 than lost that promotion due to not pass wt standards. Same nurse lost DUINS scholarship for not passing wt standards.

So yes the navy NC does follow wt requirements.

Just wondering if the AF and Navy have a tape test like the Army.

Don't know about Navy but I have read over and over on multiple sites that the Air can/will if you don't meet their BMI standards...

Yup-the Navy has body fat tests for those who exceed the height / weight standardized list.
