Okay, maybe I should post this in the OB/GYN area, but here goes:
A couple of hours ago I had an unsettling thing happen. I stood up from a seated position and felt this gush of warm fluid. It is time for my monthly cycle...I ran to the bathroom, rushed my daughter out to wash her hands in the kitchen...and found that sure enough, I had had a sudden, large flood of dark red blood and large clots. I mean it looked like someone had been brutally murdered, there was that much blood.
I have NEVER had my period start like this. I am also having some very painful cramping and pelvic area pain. I will be 40 years old this year. I haven't had a pelvic for a while (yeah, I know, but we've had money issues since my DH was laid off for so long). I will be calling my gynecologist on Monday.
Anyone else ever had this happen to them? What the heck is wrong with me?

BTW, yes the D&C helped my bleeding problem

Thank you! :kiss
I doubt I'll get in on Monday, just going to schedule an appointment. We'll see.
Glad that the D&C helped. I had a D&C a long time ago, and boy that was uncomfortable. But maybe I'm just a big wuss!
Please do let us know how that goes! Hope they can get to the bottom of this for you, and I will pray everything works out well. :kiss
Thanks for your prayers, please continue. I was referred to a specialist for my biopsy. She seems to think I may be going into pre menopause. I have to go back on Thursday for blood test. I'm praying that's not the case. I want to have babies one day.
How are you feeling Lisa? Did the MD have any good news for you?Hope you're on the road to recovery!

I am feeling better. I can't, however, get into see the doctor until MARCH 10th! :angryfire Which, by the way I figure it, will be right around the time I menstruate again. I'm thinking this is probably fibroids, or perimenopausal stuff. As long as nothing strange happens in the meantime, I guess I'm okay for now. Thanks for asking...and I hope you feel better, too! :kiss

I just wanted to bump this for an update...been thinking about the OP and wondering how this situation is?
and thank those that shared the Atkins/South Beach connection....I recently had the same thing happen to me....
and I"m 33. Tubes tied almost 3 yrs ago..and I SWORE I was miscarrying...it was painful and just oh so gross...I don't have health insurance and wasn't about to blow $100+ to be told by my GYNO that it's nothing...
and I have been doing the Atkins for a few weeks...so....now I know.
I decided that losing fast wasn't worth that...so I made some modifications to the diet and actually feel ALOT better physically....and will see if there are any changes from last month in a couple wks....
again I thank you....and yes..if it continues I will spend the $ and check it out w/ my dr.

Hi ej,
See post #43 in this thread...I did stop bleeding, finally, and will see my doctor March 10th. I will post whatever I find out, when I do. Thanks for your concern, and I do hope things straighten out for you. It's really wild what the low carb diets can do to a woman's menstrual cycle. From what I hear, though, the irregularities caused by the diet do stop after the first month or two. Unfortunately, I can't attribute my problems to either Atkins or SBD, as I was on maintenance and not eating extremely low carb or high protien. I guess it will all get figured out soon (I hope).

Lisa, what do you mean it causes the diet to stop? That wasn't my experience, it just took about 2 months to get myself regular again, but the weightloss continues. I was just curious, and please keep us posted on how you are doing??

Thanks! Nope, not having any more kids. I have been pregnant four times, three live births and I am DONE! Not to mention my husband's two are here with us, so we have a house full! It won't be long now (hopefully in at least ten more years) I'll be a grandma and look forward to enjoying that time of my life. I'll wait and see what my doctor says, and go from there. I'm going to TRY not to borrow trouble, but if he recommends a hysterectomy I may do it, as long as he can leave the ovaries, I guess. I just don't know when I'll have the TIME to get it done. School and family is what I eat, live and breathe. I can't afford to be down that long. But then again, this bleeding throws a monkey wrench into things, too. I'm just glad this didn't happen at school!
Yeah, these were very painful cramps, and my back is completely out of whack now (can barely function) but I don't know if that's related as it is not my lower back. Don't know what that's about either, but it feels like I had a muscle spasm. I guess we'll see what happens! Thanks for your post and I will see ya around school soon!
