WARNING: Anyone grossed out or easily offended by menses posts, PLEASE READ NO FURTHER!Okay, maybe I should post this in the OB/GYN area, but here goes:A couple of hours ago I had an unsettling thing happen. I stood up from a seated position and felt this gush of warm fluid. It is time for my monthly cycle...I ran to the bathroom, rushed my daughter out to wash her hands in the kitchen...and found that sure enough, I had had a sudden, large flood of dark red blood and large clots. I mean it looked like someone had been brutally murdered, there was that much blood.I have NEVER had my period start like this. I am also having some very painful cramping and pelvic area pain. I will be 40 years old this year. I haven't had a pelvic for a while (yeah, I know, but we've had money issues since my DH was laid off for so long). I will be calling my gynecologist on Monday.Anyone else ever had this happen to them? What the heck is wrong with me?

I have the Mirena IUD it is wonderful. I bleed very little sometimes not at all. I am going to keep one until menopause is over!! I would recommend it to anyone. They are starting to use it to treat fibroids. Adria

thanks for the suggestion, adria. i will discuss this with my doctor. i guess it would depend whether it would be the right thing for a woman my age who never plans on having any more children. hey, if it works, it would beat the heck out of a hysterectomy!
dave: has dr. jess had any experience with using these with her patients? (this particular iud?)

COOL! Really, seriously this sounds awesome! Progesterone, huh? That's excellent. That might even help me with PMS! I will definitely discuss this at my appointment. Thank you so much for your post! :kiss

She does use the new Mirena. From what I hear, she's very pleased with its results. Is it superior to the old Copperguard? That's still out for debate. But so far the Mirena has gotten no complaints

Thanks, Dave. I am old enough to remember horror stories about certain IUD's, and though I realize we've come a long way in medicine it is hard for me not to feel like a guinea pig sometimes! Never hurts to ask.
"ILuvNRSKarenRN"...I see you got some help with the all elusive title change!
