I'm very new to this...as in i just registered
I need all the advice feedback i can get from pre-nursing to nursing students and professionals..plzzzzzzzzzz
I'm in my 3rd yr in school my gpa is BAD but only because i started off so terrible(stupid political class!) my gpa currently is 3.08(yea bad) but i know for sure it will be 3.18-3.2 by the end of this term(if i keep up my grades)
I've taken all of my science classes except chem 2(will take in summer) and micro(currently taking) and overall i will be done with my courses this summer as far as my TEAS i took it twice first one extremly bad which shouldnt be mentione and the second which isnt all that good either 70%...
my worry is: IS THERE A CHANCE FOR ME IN NURSING
I love what nurses do and coming from a country where i've seen how much of a dif a nurse makes made me wanna do the same THAT'S ALL I WANNA DO WITH MY LIFE but lately(for about a yr now) i been feeling like this isnt for me at all not because i dont have the heart:redpinkhe for it but cuz i dont have the 3.7-4.0 brain
p.s. grades for science courses...a&p 1 B both lab and lecture a&p 2 B in lecture and C in lab and chem 1 B in lecture and A in lab

If you are extremely passionate about nursing and you know that you want to be a nurse more then anything, then YES you DO have a place in nursing.
The only problem i see, is that schools may not see this as you are only a passing rate for the NCLEX-RN and can either help their pass rate, or hurt it.
The other thing, is that most nursing school require at LEAST a C in your classes to pass, which is another reason grades are so important to schools, if they think theres a chance you will fail out of the program, they will pass on you...
Another thing depends on what school you want to attend, different schools accept different amounts of students, i've seen as little as 10 to as much as 150 per acceptance period. then you have to look at what their minimum requirements are, some schools look at Entrance Test scores, some look at GPA, some look at the Essay and interview the most...
I recommend talking to people from the schools you want to attend, see what the people are like in the nursing programs, what their grades and scores were when they were accepted.
Another option is the Nursing Diploma, not many places offer it, and if im right some hospitals offer it still, its rare, but you never know, you may get lucky and find one near you...
If this is what you REALLY want to do in life, then go for it, it may take time, hell even some with perfect grades and scores get wait listed or rejected,
I don't want any of this to discourage you! i just simply want to help...you can do it! no matter your grades!

I got into nursing school on a 2.98 GPA which it will be over 3.00 once im done. Don't give up and apply to a lot of schools. Some won't care about your GPA only about how high u score on the pre entrance and how early you submit your stuff. Good Luck

I'd rather you as a nurse than one who is 70-80% heart and 100% brain...

Don't let this bring you down. If this is what you really want to do, then you shouldn't let ANYTHING stop it from coming true. When there is will - there is a way. I can speak from experience: my high school grades were quite low (grade 12 average in the 60's) because back then I was a different person - skipped a lot of class, didn't care about grades, etc... but now, 6 years later, I realized that I needed at least an 80-85% average to even compete with all those other +90% applicants.
I did some academic upgrading and also took a "pre-nursing" program that gave me all the required science credits to get in.
I am not the "smartest" person out there, but if you want something really bad, and work hard at it... with patience, you can get it. :)
I wish you all the best in the future. And, p.s. I would totally prefer a nurse who is 100% heart over brain.. anyday.
@ Gamergirl
yea i spoke to a few people that have gotten into nursing schools and said it is VERY HARD and some fail out of it and their gpa def dropped badly...which is another thing that scares me because shoot if that person had a good score got in and is suufer to make it, what chance do i have
you get what i mean

You really cannot compare nursing school to pre-reqs. Sure enough, some people with very high GPAs come in to nursing school and struggle. I've also seen the opposite of that, people that came in with Bs and are now A students in nursing school. Different way of thinking and testing. Nursing school is a whole new ballgame that you have to adjust to. Those that adjust, do well. Those that don't are still left crying that they used to be A students.
I've always done well in school, but I knew I had to make the shift when I started nursing school. Its more about critically thinking and applying your knowledge to situations. Don't worry that A students are struggling, its just a different way of thinking and testing, not that the material you need to know is super hard.
Thanks for the info mangopeach
I just want to enter the program

I just got accepted for the fall of 2011 and, when I applied to nursing school, my GPA was a 2.97. I was so ashamed of that, becuase I usually make all As and was used to having a near perfect GPA. When I applied, I felt sure that they would laugh me out of the program and label me as stupid, however, they saw that I had the potential to do better, and they saw that my heart was truly in nursing. If you are as motivated as you say you are, then yes, you can absolutely become a nurse. You may have to study longer and harder than your classmates, and you may spend a great deal of time frustrated, but you can do it. Just keep your head up, remember why you want to be a nurse, give yourself plenty of time to study, and don't expect perfection. Remember, no one bats 1000 all the time and, sometimes, it's okay to make a B or C. Just keep your grades at a C or better and don't be too hard on yourself. That 100% heart you have will be a great benefit to the patients you will take care of once you get your RN.
